    Le XIXe siècle avait connu au Liban un premier éveil culturel et philologique. Rendu possible par l'essor des imprimeries, pour répondre en particulier aux exigences nouvelles du journalisme et aux conséquences de l'alphabétisation, cet éveil s'était traduit par la publication d'œuvres littéraires et philologiques, issues directement du vieux patrimoine arabe ou cherchant à l'approfondir et se le réapproprier. Durant la fin de l'empire ottoman, puis plus particulièrement après l'arrivée du mandat français, la situation culturelle du Liban se modifie encore, cette fois-ci autour de valeurs nouvelles. Des associations intellectuelles, des maisons d'édition, des journaux et des revues, des écrivains innovant dans le style et dans le fond, des traductions audacieuses, de nouveaux genres faisant leur apparition en langue arabe comme le roman ou la poésie libre : autant de signes d'une nouvelle renaissance qui cherchait à exprimer des contenus inédits. Cette époque a été marquée par l'éclosion de deux grandes figures nouvelles, inconnues du monde clos de la tradition, que l'empire ottoman avait sauvegardé si longtemps : figure de l'intellectuel, non seulement lecteur mais acteur qui cherche pour ses idées une place dans le monde, et qui sera aussi, selon les cas, romancier, poète, journaliste, et souvent politique engagé ; figure de l'éditeur, accoucheur, commerçant, aventurier, fondateur de dynasties, passeur toujours entre le monde des idées et celui de la lettre. A cette époque en grande partie effacée de la mémoire, rendue presque illisible par un double phénomène d'oblitération de l'archive et de tabou de la mémoire, à cette époque rarement racontée dans la littérature spécialisée sur le phénomène éditorial, cette thèse a voulu offrir un tombeau The 19th century had witnessed an initial cultural and philological awakening in Lebanon. This was due in particular to the role of printers, of journalism, and of higher literacy rates. Literary and philological books were published, that drew directly or indirectly on the Arab tradition. Then, during the last decades of Ottoman rule, and even more so after the French mandate, the cultural situation in Lebanon changed once more, this time around new values. Groups of free thinkers, printing and publishing houses, newspapers, magazines, new writers, daring translations, new genres: the flurry of creativity was such that it earned the period the title of a 'second renaissance'. That same period saw the emergence of two important new figures. First, the 'intellectual': not just a reader, but a key player in the creative, social and political arenas. Second, the 'editor': not just a printer, but a midwife of talent, an adventurer of ideas, a shaper of worlds to come. The present thesis is a hommage to that forgotten era, that has been conspicuously absent from research on editorial trends, as the war destroyed archives and discarded memories

    Le médecin Jean Zacharias Actouarios, actif à Constantinople dans le premier tiers du XIVe siècle, a joué un rôle important à son époque non seulement en tant que médecin, mais aussi comme auteur de plusieurs oeuvres médicales de grande qualité. Son oeuvre a connu une large diffusion, ainsi qu'en témoigne la richesse de tradition manuscrite, mais est pour une bonne part inédite. Le but de cette thèse était d'établir l'histoire du texte du premier livre du traité De urinis, qui a été édité par J. L. Ideler en 1841, mais sans apparat critique ni présentation du ou des manuscrits utilisés comme base de son édition. On a pu repérer près de 40 manuscrits contenant le traité qui est d'ailleurs encore reproduit par des érudits occidentaux au XVIIe siècle. Le De urinis comprend sept livres qui s'attachent successivement à la description de la diversité des urines, le diagnostic, l'étiologie et le pronostic. Dans le premier livre, Jean Zacharias Actouarios expose comment se font l'examen des urines et l'analyse de leurs caractéristiques, selon un ordonnancement en chapitres rigoureusement agence. Ce traité est en général présenté comme un chef-d'oeuvre de la médecine byzantine ; la recherche faite dans le cadre de cette thèse a montré son originalité par rapport aux autres traités sur les urines déjà existés. Jean Zacharias Actouarios a mis en valeur la théorie et la pratique médicale et a rédigé un ouvrage méthodique et systématique caractérisé par une profondeur de raisonnement et à visée pédagogique The doctor Johannes Zacharias Actuarius, active in Constantinople during the first third of the 14e century, had an important role in his time, not only as a doctor, but also as an author of many medical treatises of big quality. His work knew a large diffusion, as the manuscript tradition indicates, but still remains - for a major part - unpublished. This thesis aims to establish the text history of the first book of the treatise De urinis, which was published by J. L. IDELER in 1841, but without any apparatus criticus neither any presentation of the manuscripts used as a basis for this edition. We were able to identify about 40 manuscripts that contain the treatise which was otherwise reproduced by the occidental scholars until the 17e century.De urinis is divised into seven books dealing with the description of the urines varieties, the diagnostic, the etiology and the prognostic. In the first book, Johannes Zacharias Actuarius describes the method of examining the urines and analysing their characteristics, with a rigorous chapter organisation: This treatise is generally considered as a masterpiece of the byzantine medicine. The research that took place in the frame of this thesis showed this treatise originality in relation to the earlier works concerning the same subject.     Ce travail présente une édition critique de la Continuation d’Acre, qui occupe la partie finale de l’Eracles et termine la section des continuations en ancien français de l’Historia de Guillaume de Tyr. Le texte étudié retrace l’histoire des Royaumes latins d’Outremer de 1229 à 1277. À travers une analyse détaillée des variantes textuelles, on a défini la structure de la tradition manuscrite, composée par onze témoins, dont six ont été copiés à Acre et cinq en Europe. Chaque exemplaire a été l’objet d’une description codicologique précise. Le texte critique est accompagné d’un apparat positif des variantes significatives. De même, un apparat exhaustif des variantes significatives et graphiques a été élaboré pour huit des quatre-vingt-huit chapitres qui composent le texte. Le commentaire linguistique a été conduit notamment à partir du texte de l’édition et à partir du texte des manuscrits d’Acre. Il vise à définir le français d’Outremer, c’est-à-dire la langue écrite et parlée pendant les croisades en Terre Sainte et ensuite dans plusieurs territoires de la Méditerranée. Cette analyse linguistique est complétée par un glossaire approfondi et par un index des noms propres. Les notes constituent le lieu privilégié pour exposer des considérations à caractère historique. Ce travail de recherche a été complété par une introduction qui comprend la chronologie des événements exposés dans le texte, ainsi que l’explication de la structure de la chronique, le modus operandi du rédacteur, le milieu de production et les sources utilisées The Acre Continuation is the last part of the Old French continuations of the Historia of William of Tyre or Eracles, which provides an account of the history of the Latin East between 1229 and 1277. The Acre Continuation’s text is preserved in eleven medieval manuscripts: six were made in Acre and five in Europe. This work provides a codicological description for each of them. It studies the manuscript tradition and classifies the eleven manuscripts into groups on the base of repeated similarities of their variant readings. In addition, the edition is accompanied by a positive apparatus, which provides a complete presentation of the variant readings from all manuscripts. The linguistic analysis is founded on the edition’s text, as well as on the variant texts of the Acre manuscripts. The aim of this analysis is to describe the French of Outremer, the language that was written and spoken during the Crusades in the Holy Land and subsequently in some other Mediterranean territories. The critical edition is completed by a historical commentary, a comprehensive glossary and an index. The Introduction comprises a chronology and a description of the structure of the chronicle. It also provides a study of the modus operandi and working life of the copyists in the Acre scriptorium and of the methods employed by compilers dealing with historical sources
