    Omagiul sentimental adus traducătoarei Flora Fröhlich, în casa căreia se întruneau în anii dictaturii comuniste scriitori, traducători, intelectuali din diferite sfere profesionale, studenţi şi elevi, creionează portretul unei personalităţi de excepţie. Flora Fröhlich a desfăşurat o prodigioasă activitate ca traducătoare din română în limba germană a unor prozatori români contemporani, traducerile ei permiţând cunoaşterea literaturii române de publicul din spaţiul de limbă germană. Flora Fröhlich a reuşit să coaguleze în jurul ei intelectuali marcanţi din Sibiu, casa în care locuia devenind un loc de întâlnire şi dezbateri pe teme culturale şi literare. Datorită personalităţii ei, a nivelului intelectual şi a caracterului ei a reuşit să devină formator de opinie, şi să contribuie efectiv la schimbul de idei în perioada regimului totalitar. The sentimental homage brought to the translator Flora Fröhlich, in whose house writers, translators, intellectuals from different professional spheres, students and pupils all met during the communist regime, pencils the portrait of an exceptional personality. Flora Fröhlich has carried on a prodigious activity as translator from Romanian into German of some contemporary Romanian prose writers, her translations enabling the German public to find out about Romanian literature. Flora Fröhlich managed to gather around her many remarkable intellectuals from Sibiu, the house where she was living becoming thus a meeting place for cultural and literary debates. Thanks to her personality, her intellectual level and her character, she managed to become an opinion maker, and to effectively contribute to the changing of ideas during the period of the totalitarian regime.

    Gramatica dependenţială, aşa cum a fost elaborată în spaţiul de limbă germană, în special de Ulrich Engel, a fost receptată în lingvistica românească cu mare întârziere. Lucrarea de faţă se concentrează asupra unui fenomen lingvistic specific, fraza nominală, şi analizează un text subsumabil limbajului juridic din perspectiva nucleelor nominale formate de cuvinte compuse în limba germană. Pornind de la conceptul de valenţă se analizează din perspectivă contrastivă varianta textului în limba germană şi traducerea în limba română. Se evidenţiază diferenţele structurale dintre cele două limbi la nivelul sintactic şi semantic, diferenţe care, dacă nu sunt sesizate şi interpretate corect, au drept repercusiuni traduceri deficitare. The dependential grammar, as it was elaborated within the German space, especially by Ulrich Engel, has been accepted by Romanian linguistics after a long period. This paper focuses on a specific linguistic phenomenon, the nominal phrase, and analyses, from the nominal nuclei perspective, a text subordinated to the law register, formed by compound words in German. Starting from the valence concept, the German text version and its Romanian translation are analysed from the contrastive perspective. The structural differences between the two languages are distinguished at a syntactic and semantic level. If these differences are not observed and correctly interpreted, they have adverse translations as a result.

    In his 1985 published volume “Rain of ashes” the writer Joachim Wittstock presents on parallel levels the tragic destinies of young men, belonging to different ethnic groups from Romania, during the Second World War. The main theme of the collection of stories is the question of guilt and redemption, a question that is being asked obsessivly by all protagonists in the last chapter. The self analysis and confession of the heroes take place in Salzburg, a bathing resort with salt lakes close to Sibiu. The essay focuses on the symbolic value and dimension of the place and its surroundings, which become by means of poetic transposition the gate to the underworld/otherworld, where the souls of the dead soldiers come together, trying to find an explanation and a sense for the terrible suffering and the mutilation of lives caused by the war.

    Gradation and intensification can be subject to different linguistic procedures. The present paper focuses on aspects of intensification and gradation by means of word formation in adjectives. The argument is that German and Romanian, as languages belonging to different language families, operate with different means to express high intensity in adjectives. The critical analysis on dictionary items (German-Romanian) aims at disclosing how mental representations are being formally structured at language level. It argues that correct equivalence in translation work can be achieved only if the deep structure level is properly understood by the translator.

    The paper focuses on aspects of comparative phraseology and paremioloy between two languages, German and Romanian and aims at disclosing differences and similarities in connection with proverbs and idioms on “the devil”. 112 items circling around “the devil” and its synonyms are being analyzed as to the life experience, world perspective and superstitions reflected in the proverbs, by drawing parallels between the equivalent structures functioning in the two languages, their form and content.

    The paper presents some aspects connected to the system of diminution in German and Romanian, by offering a comparative analysis of the German version of the fairy tale “Snow White” and six Romanian translations of the text. The focus lies on the ways in which the nouns in the text are marked as ‘diminutives’ in German (mainly by adding suffixes, the synthetic diminutives) and the equivalences suggested by the Romanian translators. Although the category ‘diminution’ is common to both languages, there are significant differences in the way it is linguistically expressed. A main part of the paper is devoted to these differences and their reflection in the text.
