Dieses Buch befasst sich mit der Konzeption und Implementierung einer freien Orientierungssoftware, die speziell auf die Bedürfnisse von Menschen mit Sehbehinderung zugeschnitten ist. Die hierfür erforderlichen Kartendaten werden aus der OpenStreetMap bezogen, da diese unter einer freien Lizenz veröffentlicht wird und bereits Informationen enthält, die für Menschen mit Sehbehinderung von Bedeutung sind. Mit der entwickelten Software ist es Menschen mit Sehbehinderung dann möglich, dieses Kartenmaterial über ihr Mobiltelefon zu nutzen und außerdem auch selbst zu editieren und zu erweitern. Zur Positionsbestimmung des Mobiltelefons findet das Global Positioning System (GPS) Verwendung. Die Programmiersprache der Navigationssoftware ist Java ME, da so theoretisch eine Nutzung auf verschiedenen Mobiltelefonen ohne weitere Anpassung der Software möglich wird.
