    Abstract: This book explores Walter Benjamin, Siegfried Kracauer and Alexander Kluge's analyses of the role that a rejuvenation in the capacity for imagination can play in encouraging us to reconceive the possibilities of the past, the present, and the future outside of the parameters of the status quo. The concept of imagination to which the title of the book refers is not a strictly defined, stable concept, but rather a term which is employed to refer to a capacity that facilitates both an active, creative relationship to one's environment, and a process of mediation between the outside world and one's own experiences and memories.     Der Begriff des ›Skandinavischen Exzeptionalismus‹ wird in der Politikwissenschaft zur Beschreibung der sozioökonomischen Organisation der nordischen Wohlfahrtsstaaten verwendet. Das Konzept impliziert ein Gesellschaftsmodell, das auf einer bestimmten Anordnung der Beziehungen zwischen Individuum, Familie, Staat und Markt basiert. Die Wahrnehmung des skandinavischen Exzeptionalismus stützt sich jedoch auch auf eine Reihe kultureller Diskurse, die sich auf die Vorstellung beziehen, dass skandinavische Länder eine spezifische Art von Modernität aufweisen, die sich in Phänomenen wie sexueller Befreiung, Geschlechtergleichheit und Umweltbewusstsein manifestiert. In diesem Buch geht es um den Diskurs skandinavischer Exzeptionalismen, wie er in verschiedenen Bereichen der Kultur des 19., 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts, darunter Literatur, Kunst, Kino, Medien und Innenarchitektur, reflektiert und verhandelt wird. Die Artikel im Buch basieren auf Beiträgen der IASS-Konferenz 2018, die an der Universität Kopenhagen stattfand. ; The concept of ›Scandinavian Exceptionalism‹ is used in political science to describe the socio-economic organization of the Nordic welfare states. The concept implies a model of society based on a particular arrangement of relations between the individual, family, state and market. Yet, the perception of Scandinavian Exceptionalism also draws on a set of cultural discourses related to the idea that Scandinavian countries display a specific kind of modernity that manifests itself in such phenomena as sexual liberation, gender equality, and environmental awareness. This book is about the discourse of Scandinavian exceptionalisms as it is reflected and negotiated in various domains of 19th, 20th and 21st century culture, including literature, art, cinema, media and interior design. The articles in the book are based on papers from the 2018 IASS Conference, held at the University of Copenhagen.

    We introduce childPoeDE: the first corpus of German poetry for children comprising poems which are still read today and cover a wide range of topics and authors. ChildPoeDE contains poem texts and both poem-level and token-level metadata. Poem-level metadata includes information about the anthologies and authors, quantitative text features, rhyme and lexical richness. Token-level metadata covers word length, position and frequency, parts-of-speech, onomatopoeia and sonority. This corpus can be used for computational text analysis, but also as a source for stimulus material in experimental studies. The corpus metadata is freely accessible via Zenodo. The poem texts are protected by copyright.

    Recent years have seen a growing interest in grammatical variation, a core explanandum of grammatical theory. The present volume explores questions that are fundamental to this line of research: First, the question of whether variation can always and completely be explained by intra- or extra-linguistic predictors, or whether there is a certain amount of unpredictable – or ‘free’ – grammatical variation. Second, the question of what implications the (in-)existence of free variation would hold for our theoretical models and the empirical study of grammar. The volume provides the first dedicated book-length treatment of this long-standing topic.     The questionnaire investigates the functional left periphery of various finite clauses in Germanic languages, with particular attention paid to clause-typing elements and the combinations thereof. The questionnaire is mostly concerned with clause typing in embedded clauses, but main clause counterparts are also considered for comparative purposes. The chief aim was to achieve comparable results across Germanic languages, though the standardised questionnaire may also be helpful in the study of other languages, too. Most questions examine the availability of various complementisers and clause-typing operators, and in some cases the movement of verbs to the left periphery is also taken into account. The questionnaire is split into seven major parts according to the types of clauses under scrutiny. All instructions were given in English and the individual questions either concern translations of given sentences from English into the target language, and/or they ask for specific details about the constructions in the target language. The present document contains the questionnaire itself (together with the instructions given at the beginning of the questionnaire and at the beginning of the individual sections, as well as the questions asking for personal data), the sociolinguistic data of the speakers, and the actual results for the individual languages. Five Germanic languages are included: Dutch, Danish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish. For each language, two informants were recruited.     Die Daten wurden im frei verfügbaren MERLIN-Korpus (www.merlin-platform.eu) erhoben und im Anschluss nach verschiedenen Kategorien manuell annotiert. Bei den Daten handelt es sich um Auszüge aus schriftlichen Produktionen, die von Lernenden des Deutschen als Fremdsprache unterschiedlicher Sprachkompetenzniveaus stammen und in denen die Verwendung der deutschen Präpositionen „an“, „auf“, „mit“ und „für“ illustriert ist. Die manuelle Annotation bezieht sich dabei vor allem auf den syntaktischen Gebrauch der Präpositionen. Die manuelle Annotation der Daten wurde angefertigt von Tassja Weber mit der Unterstützung zweier Hilfskräfte am Lehrstuhl Germanistische Linguistik der Universität Mannheim.
