Literarische Stoffe werden im Mittelalter, einer von Visualität geprägten Kultur, nicht in erster Linie über das Medium der Schrift verbreitet, sondern über die Performanz und über bildliche Darstellungen. Dadurch entstehen jeweils durchaus unterschiedliche Geschichten, etwa durch den Vortrag oder aber die Umsetzung von einzelnen Szenen durch einen Maler. Darüber hinaus können die Stoffe eine spezifische Bedeutung erhalten, wenn sie in bildlichen Darstellungen zur Repräsentation und als Statussymbol dienen. Im vorliegenden Tagungsband sind Beiträge verschiedener mediävistischer Disziplinen versammelt, die das Verhältnis von Wort und Bild und dessen Wirkung und Rezeption theoretisch beleuchten und anhand von europäischen und außereuropäischen Texten und deren bildlicher Darstellung untersuchen.

Die Ästhetik der Fragmentarität ist eine vielfältige, durch Konventionen der Medien und Gattungen geprägte Erscheinung der europäischen Kultur. In dem vorliegenden Beitrag werden die genetischen und typologischen Verbindungen zwischen den Texten von Karol Irzykowski (1873-1944) und Heinrich von Kleist (1777-1811) im Hinblick auf eine Fragmentpoetik untersucht. Die beiden Autoren verwenden nicht nur ähnliche Motive, Themen und künstlerische Verfahren, sondern beziehen sich auch auf verwandte weltanschauliche Haltungen. Doch während bei Kleist als Gegenpol zu den Beschränkungen der Wirklichkeit immer wieder das Ideal einer harmonischen Ganzheit evoziert wird, gibt es in der modernen Welt von Irzykowski nur noch die idees fixes der einzelnen Individuen.

Italien und Deutschland – kaum zwei andere Kulturen in Europa sind so stark miteinander verbunden wie diese beiden, sei es geschichtlich oder kulturell. Am wirkmächtigsten war sicherlich die Übernahme des Gedankenguts der italienischen Renaissance, in deren Folge Wissen aus gesellschaftlichen, wissenschaftlichen und kulturellen Bereichen den Weg nach Deutschland fand, darunter auch die Kenntnis von Giovanni Boccaccios Werken, die sich auf deutschsprachige Kontexte auswirkten. Der vorliegende Tagungsband versammelt die Beiträge zur gleichnamigen Tagung „Giovanni Boccaccio. Italienisch-deutscher Kulturtransfer von der Frühen Neuzeit bis zur Gegenwart“ (Bamberg, 21. bis 23. November 2013), die sich mit vielfältigen Aspekten der Boccaccio-Rezeption auseinandersetzen.

The prediction of daylight availability in indoor environments is nowadays an extremely relevant topic in the design practice for many reasons: it affects the design of the electric lighting system and therefore the calculation of the related energy consumption; it also has an impact on evaluation of comfort. Dynamic daylight simulations are a helpful tool to predict daylight availability in indoor environments and consequently to evaluate the possible reduction in energy consumptions. However, there are different software packages that perform dynamic daylight simulations and they use different engines and calculation methods which may be a source of differences in the results. Moreover this type of analysis requires a weather data file of the building's location to be performed. Since there are many of them available, which are developed from historical sets of weather measurements using different methods, the use of one or another can affect the simulations' results. Therefore in this paper an example of the impact on dynamic daylight simulations' results of different weather data files (IWEC, Meteonorm, TRY and Satel- Light) and different software (Daysim and 3ds Max Design®) will be reported.

Large volume ZnMoO4 crystal scintillators (∼ 0.3 kg) were developed and tested showing high performance in terms of radiopurity, energy resolution and α/β particle discrimination capability. Zinc molybdate crystal scintillators enriched in 100 Mo were grown for the first time by the low-thermal-gradient Czochralski technique with a high crystal yield and an acceptable level of enriched molybdenum irrecoverable losses. A background level of ∼ 0.5 counts/(yr keV ton) in the region of interest can be reached in a large detector array thanks to the excellent detectors radiopurity and particle discrimination capability, suppression of randomly coinciding events by pulse-shape analysis, and anticoincidence cut. These results pave the way to future sensitive searches based on the LUMINEU technology, capable of approaching and exploring the inverted hierarchy region of the neutrino mass pattern.

This contribution deals with the representation of verbs with multiple meanings or senses in general monolingual dictionaries. Criteria for differentiating senses in dictionary entries have traditionally been formulated with respect to the vocabulary in general. This paper argues that, while some criteria do indeed apply to the entire lexicon, many of them are relevant only to specific semantic classes. This will be demonstrated considering two selected verb classes: speech-act verbs and perception verbs. Like verbs of other classes, speech-act verbs and perception verbs may be ambiguous in different but recurrent ways. Since recurrent patterns of ambiguity are always typical of particular semantic classes, class-specific semantic criteria are formulated to decide whether a particular ambiguous speech act or perception verb should be treated as being polysemous or homonymous in dictionary entries. In addition to these class-specific semantic criteria, the semantic-syntactic criterion of identity or difference of argument structure is suggested for the lexicographical representation of verbs which may not be considered to be polysemous or homonymous on the basis of semantic criteria alone. According to the suggested argument-structure criterion, these verbs should be treated as polysemous when their senses correlate with identical argument structures and as homonymous when their senses correlate with different argument structures properties. As opposed to the semantic criteria suggested, the semantic-syntactic criterion of identity vs. difference of argument structure applies to verbs of different semantic classes. However, as will be illustrated by the discussion of the different senses of smell, it may sometimes force us to treat different but related senses as corresponding to two distinct lexical items. In mechanical speech synthesis reed pipes were mainly used for the generation of the voice. The organ stop "vox humana" played a central role for this concept. Historical documents report that the "vox humana" sounded like human vowels. In this study tones of four different "voces humanae" were recorded to investigate the similarity to human vowels. The acoustical and perceptual analysis revealed that some though not all tones show a high similarity to selected vowels.

The paper reports on experiments with acoustic recordings of a self-built replica of the historic speaking machine of Wolfgang von Kempelen. Several possibilities of the reed as the glottal excitation mechanism were tested. Perception tests with naïve listeners revealed that the machinegenerated words 'mama' and 'papa' were partially recognised as an authentic child voice – as it was also the case in von Kempelen's demonstrations in the late 18th century.

Currently, our database consists of: (1) a collection of 444 bound words in German; (2) a collection of 77 bound words in English; (3) a collection of 58 negative polarity items in Romanian; (4) a collection of 84 negative polarity items in German; and (5) a collection of 52 positive polarity items in German. The database is encoded in XML and is available via the Internet, offering dynamic and flexible access.
