    "This textbook is an introduction to the descriptive grammar of German on the levels of phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and graphemics. It is a recommended read for anyone interested in the grammar of German and especially for students of German philology. The book focuses on how grammatical generalizations are derived from concrete linguistic material while covering a huge number of the important phenomena of German grammar. No specific theoretical framework is adopted in the book but it constitutes an ideal starting point for reading more theory-specific textbooks and accessible research papers. Despite its length, the book is suitable for inclusion in all sorts of curricula, mostly because the five parts of the book can be read separately. Almost all chapters contain a large number of exercises, many of which come with solutions in the appendix. The second edition was prepared based to a large extent on reader feedback. It introduces numerous corrections and improvements. Most prominently, the chapter on phonology was completely rewritten so as to provide a better description of the relevant generalizations of German syllable structure."... "Einführung in die grammatische Beschreibung des Deutschen ist eine Einführung in die deskriptive Grammatik am Beispiel des gegenwärtigen Deutschen in den Bereichen Phonetik, Phonologie, Morphologie, Syntax und Graphematik. Das Buch ist für alle geeignet, die sich für die Grammatik des Deutschen interessieren, vor allem aber für Studierende der Germanistik bzw. Deutschen Philologie. Im Vordergrund steht die Vermittlung grammatischer Erkenntnisprozesse und Argumentationsweisen auf Basis konkreten sprachlichen Materials. Es wird kein spezieller theoretischer Rahmen angenommen, aber nach der Lektüre sollten Leser in der Lage sein, sowohl deskriptiv ausgerichtete Forschungsartikel als auch theorienahe Einführungen lesen zu können. Das Buch enthält zahlreiche Übungsaufgaben, die im Anhang gelöst werden. Die zweite Auflage ist vor allem auf Basis von Rückmeldungen aus Lehrveranstaltungen entstanden und enthält zahlreiche Korrekturen und größere Überarbeitungen. Das Kapitel zur Phonologie wurde vom Autor nahezu vollständig neu geschrieben, vor allem um relevante Generalisierungen des Silbenbaus besser zu erfassen."...

Bei diesem Band handelt es sichum die erste umfassende Studie zur theoretischen Reflexion biographischen Schreibens am Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts.     This volume focuses on the form of literary writing that is emerging from the lifeworld of young people. The »style« which is becoming increasingly evident in this context is innovative, and sometimes even avant-garde.

    In der globalisierten digitalisierten Medienwelt nehmen gerade bildungsferne Jugendliche einen privilegierten Platz ein. Anhand umfangreicher Texte aus einem Schreibprojekt zeigt Gerda Wurzenberger, wie das Medienwissen sowie die alltagssprachlichen Ressourcen der Jugendlichen genutzt werden können, um literarisches Schreiben aus der Lebenswelt der Jugendlichen heraus zu entwickeln und zugleich auch darin zu verorten. Der Style, den die Jugendlichen beim gemeinsamen Schreiben kreieren, macht das innovative Potenzial erkennbar, welches die (Inter-)Medialisierung des Alltags sowie die Migrationsbewegungen für die Sprache und das Erzählen bereithalten.

    In the first third of the 20th century more women acquired habilitation at the Viennese German Department than at any other Department in the German speaking countries. In 1921, the postdoctoral license to teach was awarded to Christine Touaillon (1978-1928), a literary historian, in 1924, it was granted to Marianne Thalmann (1888-1975), a scholar of literary Romanticism, and in 1927, it was permitted to Lily Weiser (1898-1987), a German ethnologist. On the basis of these findings, the thesis analyzes the scientific and institutional constitution of Viennese German Studies, and reveals that the self-conception and the disciplinary differentiation of an academic field substantially affect its personnel policy and therefore the status of female scholars.An der Wiener Germanistik wurde im ersten Drittel des 20. Jahrhunderts mehr Frauen die akademische Lehrbefugnis verliehen als an allen anderen Instituten des deutschsprachigen Raums. 1921 habilitierte sich die Literaturhistorikerin Christine Touaillon (1878–1928), 1924 die Romantikforscherin Marianne Thalmann (1888–1975) und 1927 die Volks- und Germanenkundlerin Lily Weiser (1898–1987). Ausgehend von diesem Befund widmet sich die vorliegende Studie der Wissenschafts- und Institutionengeschichte der Wiener Germanistik und zeigt, dass das Selbstverständnis und die disziplinäre Ausdifferenzierung eines Faches wesentlich dessen personelle Umsetzung und damit auch den Status von Außenseitern, mithin von Frauen, im Wissenschaftsbetrieb beeinflussen...

    Purity as DifferenceIdentity and Alterity in Max Frisch`s early fictionThis study investigates the early fiction of Max Frisch, previously only margin-ally discussed, in particular his first novel, «Jürg Reinhart. Eine sommerliche Schicksalsfahrt» (1934), the novella «Antwort aus der Stille» (1937), as well as the sequel to the Reinhart story, «J’adore ce qui me brûle oder Die Schwierigen». It uses previously unknown sources to reconstruct the creative origins of these works. Deploying a discourse analysis, this book employs analytical techniques from gender and postcolonial studies to deconstruct is-sues of ethnicity, nationalism, gender, and class. The three texts, and their constructions of identity and alterity are contextualized within the contested zone of ‹purity› and ‹difference› and relevant fields of discourse. «Antwort aus der Stille» is investigated within the Alpine discourse, including its nationalistic, gender-political and sexist extensions, «Jürg Reinhart» in the anti-Semitic, Orientalist, Balkan and Slavic discourses, and «J’adore ce qui me brûle» in the contemporary discourse of emancipation and gender issues, and especially in the discourse of eugenics and its Social Darwinist implications.Die Studie untersucht die literaturwissenschaftlich noch wenig erforschten frühen Erzählwerke von Max Frisch, namentlich den Romanerstling «Jürg Reinhart. Eine sommerliche Schicksalsfahrt» (1934), die längere Erzählung «Antwort aus der Stille» (1937) sowie die Romanfortsetzung der Reinhart-Geschichte «J’adore ce qui me brûle oder Die Schwierigen» (1943), und re-konstruiert deren Genese unter Einbezug bisher unbekannter Quellen. Einem diskursanalytischen Ansatz verpflichtet, befragt sie diese Werke mit dem Ana-lyseinstrumentarium der Gender und Postcolonial Studies nach Entwürfen von Ethnizität, Nationalität, Geschlecht und Klassenzugehörigkeit. Im Spannungs-feld von ‹Reinheit› und ‹Differenz› kontextualisiert sie die drei Primärtexte und deren Konstruktionen von Identität und Alterität in den einschlägigen Dis-kursfeldern. «Antwort aus der Stille» wird im Alpen- und Alpinismusdiskurs der Zeit verortet, einschliesslich seiner nationalistischen, genderpolitischen und sexistischen Weiterun ...

    Having elicited much attention in the humanities in recent years, transcultural phenomena will, in all probability, remain a topic of debate in the near future. Being the product of a collaborative act of writing involving nine authors with different specializations, this study is an introduction to the study of phenomena of transcultural entanglement as well as an effort at systematically exploring this field of research from different medievalist perspectives.Transkulturelle Phänomene haben in den letzten Jahren zunehmend die Aufmerksamkeit der Forschung auf sich gezogen und werden aller Voraussicht nach auch in den nächsten Jahren Gegenstand geisteswissenschaftlicher Debatten sein. Als Ergebnis eines kollaborativen Schreibaktes versteht sich der vorliegende Band sowohl als Einführung in die Untersuchung transkultureller Verflechtungsphänomene wie auch als Versuch einer systematischen Durchdringung dieses Forschungsfeldes aus unterschiedlichen mediävistischen Perspektiven. Er befasst sich zunächst auf theoretischer Ebene mit der Entwicklung und den Entstehungshintergründen des transkulturellen Paradigmas. In zahlreichen Quellenstudien erörtert er ferner, wie transkulturelle Verflechtungsprozesse in mittelalterlichen Quellen unterschiedlicher Herkunft und Art benannt, beschrieben und bewertet werden. Auf dieser Grundlage wird der Versuch unternommen, unter Nutzung der Begriffe ‚Netzwerk‘, ‚Gewebe‘, ‚rhizomatisches Geflecht‘ und ‚Fusion‘ verschiedene Modelle transkultureller Verflechtung zu definieren und anhand der Quellen auszuarbeiten. Ergänzend erfolgt eine ebenfalls quellengestützte Beschäftigung mit den reziproken Beziehungen zwischen Verflechtungs- und Entflechtungsprozessen. Sie mündet in abschließende Überlegungen zu der Frage, welchen methodischen Chancen und Risiken sich eine historisch arbeitende Forschung ausgesetzt sieht, die das transkulturelle Paradigma für die konkrete Arbeit an den Quellen nutzen möchte. Indem der Band die Genese aktueller methodischer Diskussionen nachzeichnet und diese anhand von mehr als fünfzig kurzen Quellenanalysen konkretisiert, eignet er sich in idealer Weise für den Einsatz in Studium und Lehre. In der globalisierten digitalisierten Medienwelt nehmen gerade bildungsferne Jugendliche einen privilegierten Platz ein. Anhand umfangreicher Texte aus einem Schreibprojekt zeigt Gerda Wurzenberger, wie das Medienwissen sowie die alltagssprachlichen Ressourcen der Jugendlichen genutzt werden können, um literarisches Schreiben aus der Lebenswelt der Jugendlichen heraus zu entwickeln und zugleich auch darin zu verorten.     Purity as Difference Identity and Alterity in Max Frisch`s early fiction This study investigates the early fiction of Max Frisch, previously only margin-ally discussed, in particular his first novel, «Jürg Reinhart. Eine sommerliche Schicksalsfahrt» (1934), the novella «Antwort aus der Stille» (1937), as well as the sequel to the Reinhart story, «J’adore ce qui me brûle oder Die Schwierigen». It uses previously unknown sources to reconstruct the creative origins of these works. Deploying a discourse analysis, this book employs analytical techniques from gender and postcolonial studies to deconstruct is-sues of ethnicity, nationalism, gender, and class. The three texts, and their constructions of identity and alterity are contextualized within the contested zone of ‹purity› and ‹difference› and relevant fields of discourse. «Antwort aus der Stille» is investigated within the Alpine discourse, including its nationalistic, gender-political and sexist extensions, «Jürg Reinhart» in the anti-Semitic, Orientalist, Balkan and Slavic discourses, and «J’adore ce qui me brûle» in the contemporary discourse of emancipation and gender issues, and especially in the discourse of eugenics and its Social Darwinist implications. Die Studie untersucht die literaturwissenschaftlich noch wenig erforschten frühen Erzählwerke von Max Frisch, namentlich den Romanerstling «Jürg Reinhart. Eine sommerliche Schicksalsfahrt» (1934), die längere Erzählung «Antwort aus der Stille» (1937) sowie die Romanfortsetzung der Reinhart-Geschichte «J’adore ce qui me brûle oder Die Schwierigen» (1943), und re-konstruiert deren Genese unter Einbezug bisher unbekannter Quellen. Einem diskursanalytischen Ansatz verpflichtet, befragt sie diese Werke mit dem Ana-lyseinstrumentarium der Gender und Postcolonial Studies nach Entwürfen von Ethnizität, Nationalität, Geschlecht und Klassenzugehörigkeit. Im Spannungs-feld von ‹Reinheit› und ‹Differenz› kontextualisiert sie die drei Primärtexte und deren Konstruktionen von Identität und Alterität in den einschlägigen Dis-kursfeldern. «Antwort aus der Stille» wird im Alpen- und Alpinismusdiskurs der Zeit verortet, einschliesslich seiner nationalistischen, genderpolitischen und sexistischen Weiterungen; «Jürg Reinhart» im antisemitischen, im Orient-, im Balkan- und im Slawendiskurs; «J’adore ce qui me brûle» im zeitgenössischen Emanzipations- und Geschlechterdiskurs sowie ganz besonders im Eugenikdis-kurs und seinen sozialdarwinistischen Implikationen.
