    This Doctoral Thesis deals with the lexical repertoire of Hunsrückisch spoken in the La Plata Basin. The immigration language of Hunsrückisch was brought to southern Brazil after the first arrival of German immigrants in 1824, which was the beginning of an intense linguistic contact with Brazilian Portuguese and Platinum Spanish (in Argentina and Paraguay). Elements of dialectal variety arising from this linguistic contact (hybridity, linguistic calques, etc.) as well as the German origin in the lexical repertoire are analyzed from the perspective of pluridimensional and relational Dialectology. Here, the two most important migratory processes of transatlantic and inter-American migration are considered. The data analyzed in this study comes from interviews at 41 geographical data points, conducted within the framework of the ALMA-H project (Linguistic-Contactual Atlas of German Minorities in the La Plata Basin - Hunsrückisch.

    El Romanticismo alemán se sirvió del drama con menos frecuencia y con menos éxito que los movimientos estéticos que lo precedieron. Pero existió un teatro romántico alemán y llegó a desarrollar una serie de características distintivas. En la medida en que estas características se analizan a la luz del programa del Romanticismo mismo, se pueden ver con algo más de claridad algunas de las posibles razones por las cuales los románticos alemanes no solo no produjeron gran cantidad de obras teatrales sino que tampoco encontraron en el teatro un vehículo apropiado para parte importante de su propuesta. El objetivo del presente artículo es llevar a cabo dicho análisis y reflexionar en torno a la naturaleza del drama alemán del Romanticismo y las razones de su desarrollo comparativamente menor. ; German Romanticism made use of drama less frequently and less successfully than the aesthetic movements that preceded it. However, there was a German Romantic theater, and it developed a number of distinctive characteristics. As these features are analyzed in the light of the Romantic program itself, one can see with rather greater clarity some of the possible reasons why the German Romantics not only failed to produce a large number of plays, but also did not find in drama an appropriate vehicle for an important part of their agenda. This paper carries out such an analysis and reflects on the nature of German Romantic drama and the reasons for its comparatively minor development.

    La popularidad de Alejandro de Humboldt ha cambiado profundamente dentro del último cuarto de siglo en la opinión pública de habla alemana. Prueba de esto son no sólo las encuestas televisivas sobre los alemanes más famosos, dentro de las cuales figura en estos momentos Alejandro de Humboldt, o programas de televisión sobre expediciones actuales, en los que continuamente se retoma el nombre de Humboldt; quizás la comprobación más clara de este cambio es el éxito enorme de la novela Die Vermessung der Welt de Daniel Kehlmann. Éxito que sería impensable sin el proceso esbozado más arriba. Ante este trasfondo, estudiar el gran éxito de esta pequeña novela resulta no sólo atractivo, sino además revelador. ¿De qué se trata Die Vermessung der Welt? ¿Cómo se puede explicar el »fenómeno Kehlmann« desde una distancia relativamente mayor? ; Wie stark sich im Verlauf des zurückliegenden Vierteljahrhunderts der Bekanntheitsgrad Alexander von Humboldts in der deutschsprachigen Öffentlichkeit verändert hat, zeigen nicht nur Fernsehumfragen zu den berühmtesten Deutschen, in denen Alexander von Humboldt mittlerweile figuriert, oder Fernsehserien, die über aktuelle Expeditionen berichten und auf Humboldts Namen zurückgreifen. Am deutlichsten vielleicht belegt dies der enorme Erfolg von Daniel Kehlmanns Roman Die Vermessung der Welt, der ohne die zuvor skizzierte Entwicklung nicht denkbar gewesen wäre. Es ist vor diesem Hintergrund nicht nur reizvoll, sondern aufschlußreich, sich mit dem großen Erfolg dieses kleinen Romans zu beschäftigen. Worum geht es in Die Vermessung der Welt?     Este trabajo comienza describiendo brevemente cómo surge en 1917 un nuevo enfoque literario en Kafka. En sus Zürauer Aphorismen, de publicación póstuma, el autor ha adoptado una nueva forma de escritura punzante y minimalista. En un segundo paso, se identifican cuatro temas centrales, de ningún modo reductibles a una doctrina ni a una guía para la vida: «camino», «objetivo», «pecado original» y el problema cuerpo-alma. Una tercera sección esboza qué aforismos han ocupado durante mucho tiempo al autor, y cómo estos brevísimos textos podrían quizás utilizarse también en el aula. Aquí se da preferencia a un enfoque existencialista y productivo, frente al enfoque que contextualiza los aforismos de Zürau en el desarrollo espiritual o en el conjunto de la obra de Kafka. Según la experiencia del autor, tanto en la enseñanza media como en la universitaria los/las estudiantes suelen captar el potencial de estos textos sin las distracciones que supone la investigación filológica.

    Two hypotheses were set for this work: the role of the harp and Aeolian harp as literary motifs in the oeuvre of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and their concrete meanings. These would be either inherited from the literary tradition or personal. The two aims of this work were the confirmation of both hypotheses and the identification of the different kinds of harps that Goethe knew throughout his life. The meaning of the harp as motif is almost always inherited from the literary tradition; it can also work as a metonymy of poetry. Goethe met some of the most famous harpists of his time; most of them played single-action harps. He was also familiar with the phenomenon of the wandering harpists, who used hook-harps. These personal experiences led to a personal meaning of this instrument in some of his literary works, such as the character of the harpist in Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre. The most original meaning of the harp can be found in two fantastic tales: Märchen and Der neue Paris, where this instrument works as attribute of fantastic creatures that show positive features. The Aeolian harp always works as a literary motif in Goethe’s oeuvre and has several meanings: the spiritual world in Faust, the musicality of Serbian folksongs in “Über serbische Lieder”, or the spiritual union and sensitiveness of the human soul in Äolsharfen. Therefore, the different meanings of the harp and Aeolian harp in Goethe’s work practically vary from work to work: some are inherited from the literary tradition and others are personal of the author.     This paper deals with the image of Spain and how it is misrepresented in the German historical narratives written during the exile period. This misrepresentation is due on the one hand to the writers' lack of knowledge of the historical context in which their works were set and on the other hand to the individual motivation of the authors themselves. Through an examination of the two novels which Lion Feuchtwanger set in Spain, "Die Jüdin von Toledo" and "Goya", this article will try to analyse how in both cases the Spanish context offered the author the perfect frame to build the plot and the scenes and relate it to the historical moment Germany was experiencing. Furthermore, literary images and motifs will also be taken into consideration in order to prove how the reality of Spain in two very particular moments of its history was distorted in both novels. ; Die vorliegende Arbeit versucht herauszuarbeiten, wie das Spanienbild im deutschen historischen Exilroman in vielfacher Hinsicht verfälscht worden ist. Dies ist einerseits bedingt durch die mangelnde Vertrautheit der Autoren mit dem Kontext, in dem ihre Romane spielen, andererseits durch die spezifischen Interessen, von denen sie geleitet sind, um Stoff und Handlung zu konstruieren. Anhand der beiden Romane mit spanischen Themen von Lion Feuchtwanger, "Die Jüdin von Toledo" und "Goya", werden die Anknüpfungspunkte analysiert, die der Rahmen der Iberischen Halbinsel dem Autor bot, um die Szenarien beider Romane im Zusammenhang mit der historischen Situation Deutschlands zu konstruieren, sowie die Motive und Bilder, die in beiden Romanen ein unzutreffendes Bild der spanischen Wirklichkeit in zwei wichtigen Perioden seiner Geschichte entstehen lassen.

    This paper examines the decisive importance which the work of Switzerland's only – albeit now completely forgotten – Nobel Prize winner for Literature had on the development of Swiss prose in the 20th century, and all this without receiving any critical attention whatsoever. The article will also try to give an answer to one of the most frequently asked questions: why such a prestigious award was granted to an author whose name has not managed to travel beyond the borders of Switzerland or the limits of his lifetime. ; Die vorliegende Arbeit versucht herauszuarbeiten, dass das Werk des einzigen, heute völlig vergessenen Schweizer Literaturnobelpreisträgers eine entscheidende Rolle für die Herausbildung der Schweizer Prosa des 20. Jahrhunderts gespielt hat, ohne dass die literarische Kritik dies in irgendeiner Weise zur Kenntnis genommen hätte. Andererseits wird auch versucht, eine sehr oft gestellte Frage zu beantworten: Warum ein so wichtiger Preis an einen Schriftsteller verliehen wurde, dessen Werk es nicht gelungen ist, eine deutliche Wirkung über die Grenzen der Schweiz und die seiner Zeit hinaus zu entfalten.
