    Der Beitrag beschreibt die Einführung einer neuen digitalen Methode zur Erforschung multimodaler graphischer Kommunikation für die Ägyptologie. Im Zentrum steht dabei der Aufbau eines digitalen Corpus, das Daten zur graphischen Kommunikation erfasst und dabei Verfahren entwickelt, neben Texten und Bildern auch Text-Bild-Kompositionen sowie deren räumliche Bedeutungsaspekte systematisch zu beschreiben, zu annotieren und zu visualisieren. Dadurch sollen im Fach neue Wege beschritten werden, mediale und kulturelle Gegebenheiten und Entwicklungen aus synchroner (z. B. Genretypen) als auch aus diachroner Perspektive (z. B. Entstehung und Entwicklung von Genres) datengeleitet zu identifizieren und nachzuvollziehen.

    Seit ihren Anfängen in den 1970er Jahren ist es ein Charakteristikum der Konversationsanalyse, dass sie großen Wert darauf legt, mit Audio- und Videoaufnahmen von sozialer Interaktion in ihrem natürlichen räumlich-materiellen, sozialen und kulturellen Kontext zu arbeiten. In der angelsächsischen Literatur wird dies mit dem Begriff ‘naturally occurring’ gefasst. Die Audio- und Videoaufnahmen werden einer sehr detaillierten Analyse unterzogen. Entsprechend hoch sind die Anforderungen, die die Konversationsanalyse an ihre Transkriptionen stellt. In diesem Beitrag befasse ich mich mit konversationsanalytischen Transkriptionen: Ich gehe auf die dabei auftretenden Probleme, ihre möglichen Lösungen und auf die zu treffenden Entscheidungen ein und diskutiere die jeweiligen analytischen und epistemologischen Konsequenzen.

    We describe PAX, "Portable Audio Concordance System", a proof-of-concept prototype of a multipurpose, multilingual audio concordance toolkit. The primary goal is to support efficient grammar and lexicon construction in the documentation of unwritten languages; languages currently included are Ega, Anyi, and Koulango (Ivory Coast), additional samples in German and English. The approach combines methods from corpus linguistics, annotation theory and practice, phonetics and lexicography.

    For a detailed description of time aligned corpora, for example spoken language corpora and multimodal corpora, specific metadata categories are necessary, extending the scope of traditional metadata categories. We argue that it is necessary to allow metadata on all levels of annotation, i.e. on a general level for catalogues, on the session level for each recording, on the annotation level for multi tier score annotation, even on the level of individual annotation segments. We use existing standards where they allow this distinction and introduce metadata categories for the layer level.
