    Passaram já mais de vinte anos sobre a apresentação no Centro Pompidou, em Paris, da exposição 'Vienne, 1880-1938, naissance d'un siècle'. Tratou-se, como alguns se recordarão, de um acontecimento de grande repercussão em toda a Europa. A definitiva consolidação do mito cultural da “Viena de 1900” está estreitamente associada a este acontecimento. A ressonância do evento, contudo, não poderá ser cabalmente entendida se não se tiver presente que, em meados dos anos oitenta a controvérsia sobre o pós-modernismo estava no auge. A verdade é que o comissário da exposição, Jean Clair, programou-a expressamente como uma espécie de manifesto pós-moderno, à luz de uma interpretação da modernidade vienense como um sítio arqueológico maior da pós-modernidade. ...

    This article is composed by two different, though articulated, moments. First we intend to discuss some aspects of the difficulties related to literary historiography nowadays, by questioning the concept itself, as well as the difficulties in establishing a History of German Literature, when we consider some Austrian contemporary authors. After that, we discuss some aspects regarding the Austrian author Thomas Bernhard's last play, "Heroes' Square" ("Heldenplatz"), premièred in 1988. ... Este artigo é formado por dois momentos distintos, porém articulados. Em primeiro lugar, pretende-se colocar algumas questões centrais para a discussão sobre a historiografia literária. Isso será feito tanto pelo questionamento de seu estatuto nos dias de hoje, bem como das dificuldades de se estabelecer uma história literária em língua alemã, quando se tem em vista autores austríacos contemporâneos. Num segundo segmento, a partir das considerações anteriores, iremos discorrer sobre a pertinência de uma perspectiva imanente. Para isso discutiremos alguns aspectos sobre a última peça do austríaco Thomas Bernhard, "Praça dos Heróis" ("Heldenplatz"), de 1988. ...

    This article results from a research carried out between April and June of 2010 in the Instituto de Estudos Brasileiros at the Universidade de São Paulo, in which a complete list of titles related to the German language and culture was collected from João Guimarães Rosa's personal library. Alongside a description of the procedures taken, we offer a comment on some of the most important aspects of the material analysed, including its recurrent themes and features, such as the marginalia found in volumes by authors like Nietzsche, Kafka and Erich Auerbach, as well as on the general context of Guimarães Rosa's German readings. ... O artigo resulta de pesquisa realizada entre os meses de abril e junho de 2010 no Instituto de Estudos Brasileiros (USP) e apresenta a listagem completa dos títulos pertencentes à biblioteca de João Guimarães Rosa que de algum modo se relacionam à língua e cultura alemãs. Descrevemos nosso procedimento e procuramos privilegiar alguns aspectos do material estudado, elaborando uma introdução ao levantamento, comentando as presenças mais significativas, os temas recorrentes e a marginália encontrada em volumes de autores como Nietzsche, Kafka e Erich Auerbach, bem como o contexto da relação de Guimarães Rosa com as leituras alemãs. ...

    This article is an analysis of the novel "Die neuen Leiden des jungen W." (1973) in the light of its intertextuality with Goethe's, Defoe's and Salinger's texts. It has been suggested that Plenzdorf's novel creates a stylistic and ideological world, which is instigating for the literary paradigms of the Socialist Realism of the 70s in East Germany. Twenty years after the Fall of the Berlin Wall, this created world in the novel seems to be up-to-date or even paradigmatic for the current representation of German Democratic Republic cultural memory in literature and film. The article then relies on an analysis of intertextuality and intermediality as a method to approach processes of transformation. The different processes inherent to the novel and its pretexts have been reported. ; Nesta análise do romance "Die neuen Leiden des jungen W." (1973) em sua intertextualidade com os romances de Goethe, Defoe e Salinger, sugere-se que o texto de Plenzdorf cria um universo estilístico e ideológico instigante a uma produção inserida no contexto literário do Realismo Socialista dos anos 70 na Alemanha Oriental. Vinte anos após a Queda do Muro de Berlim, esse universo revela-se atual, senão modelar, para o (re)trabalho de memória cultural da RDA representado na literatura e no cinema contemporâneos. Para tanto, recorre-se às análises da intertextualidade como um método de abordagem de processos de transformação. Expõem-se, então, os diferentes processos observados no romance em relação aos seus pré-textos. ; Ziel dieses Beitrags ist die intertextuelle Untersuchung von Plenzdorfs Roman "Die neuen Leiden des jungen W." (1973), unter der Berücksichtigung von Goethes "Die Leiden des jungen Werthers" (1774), Defoes "Robinson Crusoe" (1719) und Salingers "Der Fänger im Roggen" (1951).     O presente trabalho analisa a estrutura narrativa do romance "O tambor" ("Die Blechtrommel") de Günter Grass e do filme homônimo dirigido por Volker Schlöndorff, observando a forma como o romancista articula a construção complexa de seu foco narrativo e como o cineasta trabalha essa estrutura em seu filme, o que resulta em diferentes formas de perceber e interpretar tanto o narradorpersonagem quanto o universo no qual está inserido, levando em consideração que a discussão sobre adaptações de obras literárias em realizações cinematográficas já passou da discussão moralizante da fidelidade ou traição para uma discussão menos valorativa. O artigo enfatiza o estudo da intertextualidade entre a adaptação cinematográfica e o romance original, tendo como pontos de observação o tipo de seleção feita no processo da realização fílmica, a concretização visual do texto literário, a atualização de determinados temas abordados na obra e o foco narrativo, por exemplo. ; The purpose of this work is to analyze the narrative structure of the novel by Günter Grass "Die Blechtrommel", and the film with the same title, by Volker Schlöndorff, observing, on the one hand, the way the writer articulates the construction of his narrative point of view and, on the other hand, how the movie maker builds the structure of his film, which then results in different ways of perception and interpretation on the part of the character-narrator and the universe of which he is part.     This paper presents an overview of the central arguments of some studies and essays about Austrian literature (Menasse; Schmidt-Dengler; Sebald, Weiss, Zeyringer) that are concerned with the existence of a difference between the Austrian and other German language literatures. To illuminate the core points of these discussions, we will compare them to representative arguments about Austrian literature from post-war decades. The aim is to show that contemporary German literature studies in Austria do not dedicate themselves any more to the construction of an "Austrian myth" or to the search of an alleged "essence" of national literature. On the contrary, the construction of an "Austrian myth" has been replaced by analyses of this myth as well as the social and historical contexts that surround the literary production of the country. In spite of the argumentative discrepancies between the different approaches – which are closely aligned with the formation of the Austrian nation -, the continuing insistence on the part of contemporary German literature studies in Austria on the distinctiveness of Austrian literature is interesting to observe. ; In diesem Beitrag werden zentrale Argumente wissenschaftlicher Publikationen und Aufsätze (Menasse; Schmidt-Dengler; Sebald, Weiss, Zeyringer) über die österreichische Literatur zusammengefasst und näher beleuchtet, insbesondere jene, die sich auf die Eigenständigkeit der österreichischen Literatur neben anderen Literaturen in deutscher Sprache beziehen. Um diese Debatten in ihren historischen Zusammenhang zu stellen, werden sie mit theoretischen Ansätzen v.a. der Nachkriegszeit verglichen, die sich dem selben Thema widmen. So können wir feststellen, dass sich die jüngere österreichische Germanistik nicht mehr der Konstruktion eines "österreichischen Mythos" widmet, genauso wenig wie der Diskussion über das, was das "Wesen" der österreichischen Literatur ausmachen könnte.     This article is composed by two different, though articulated, moments. First we intend to discuss some aspects of the difficulties related to literary historiography nowadays, by questioning the concept itself, as well as the difficulties in establishing a History of German Literature, when we consider some Austrian contemporary authors. After that, we discuss some aspects regarding the Austrian author Thomas Bernhard's last play, "Heroes' Square" ("Heldenplatz"), premièred in 1988. The whole process of writing and staging was marked by the author's design to cause an intentional scandal. As such, the very concept of the play involves its reception in a very fruitful dialectics between arts and society, and not resulting in a merely accidental provocation at the formal level. Thus, the play questions the very conception of art as something organic and self-enclosed, updating the brechtian epic tradition, decisive also for the development of the Brazilian theater, from the 50's until the present day. ; Este artigo é formado por dois momentos distintos, porém articulados. Em primeiro lugar, pretende-se colocar algumas questões centrais para a discussão sobre a historiografia literária. Isso será feito tanto pelo questionamento de seu estatuto nos dias de hoje, bem como das dificuldades de se estabelecer uma história literária em língua alemã, quando se tem em vista autores austríacos contemporâneos. Num segundo segmento, a partir das considerações anteriores, iremos discorrer sobre a pertinência de uma perspectiva imanente. Para isso discutiremos alguns aspectos sobre a última peça do austríaco Thomas Bernhard, "Praça dos Heróis" ("Heldenplatz"), de 1988. Todo seu processo de escrita e encenação foi marcado por um escândalo programado pelo autor. Deste modo, a própria concepção da peça envolve a recepção em uma dialética entre arte e sociedade muito fecunda, resultando numa provocação elevada ao nível da forma, e não meramente acidental.
