    The current paper discusses Herta Müller's poetry essays in the context of contemporary autobiographical German writing. The question of referentiality of her essays will receive special attention; in these writings several aesthetic characteristics of autobiographical composition will also be shown. Furthermore, it will be demonstrated to what extent the effect of her essayistic writing is not only aesthetic, but also and mainly political. No presente artigo discute-se o ensaísmo poetológico de Herta Müller no contexto da escrita autobiográfica alemã contemporânea. A questão da referencialidade de seus ensaios receberá especial atenção; nesses textos também serão apontadas as diversas características estéticas da composição autobiográfica. No mais, demonstra-se em que medida o efeito de sua escrita ensaística não é somente estético mas também e, principalmente, político.

    This article investigates Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's "Italian Journey", published in 1816-1817, which reports his travels through the Italian peninsula from 1786 to 1788. More than a reconstruction of his traveling through memories and diaries, the "Journey" stands out as a narrative of a different look towards a piece of art, as a construction of Goethe's aesthetics. Investiga-se a "Viagem à Itália" de Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, obra que narra a viagem à península italiana de 1786 a 1788, publicada em 1816-1817. Contudo, mais do que uma reconstrução de sua viagem através das memórias e diários, a "Viagem" importa, antes de mais, como uma narrativa da construção de um novo olhar para com a obra de arte, como a construção da própria estética goetheana.

    This article approaches the ambivalent relations between Musil and Freud. It proceeds in three sections. The first analises the spontaneous psychoanalytical intuitions Musil exposes in his first novel, "The confusions of young Törless". The psychological insights of the novelist accompany and also anticipate the discoveries of the father of psychoanalysis. The second section exposes the seminal studies of Corino and Henninger (among other authors) who see Musil's reserved attitude towards Freud as a symptomatic resistence and interpret the unconscious determination of his work. The third exposes other reasons (aesthetic and theoretical arguments) which explain the author's reluctance, without excluding the resistencetheory. ... Este artigo sobre as relações ambivalentes entre Musil e Freud procede em três etapas. Na primeira, analisamos as intuições psicanalíticas de Musil no seu primeiro romance, "O jovem Törless". Os 'insights' psicológicos do romancista acompanham e antecipam as descobertas clínicas do pai da Psicanálise. A segunda se debruça sobre os trabalhos seminais (Corino, Henninger, entre outros) que veem as reservas de Musil diante de Freud como resistências sintomáticas e evidenciam a determinação inconsciente de sua obra. A terceira expõe outras razões (estéticas e teóricas) para a reserva do artista. Estas não excluem, mas se adicionam às resistências sintomáticas. ...

    Este trabalho analisa a integração e a construção da narrativa mítica das mulheres Amazonas no primeiro volume da trilogia sul-americana "Amazonas", de Alfred Döblin. Trata-se de um romance ainda pouco conhecido no Brasil, escrito entre 1935 e 1937, quando o autor esteve exilado em Paris. Sob a perspectiva de Jan Assmann em relação às noções de mitomotricidade fundacional e mitomotricidade contrapresente, focalizamos como a narrativa mítica das mulheres Amazonas é incorporada na trilogia e quais significações suscita. Consideramos que o autor opera de duas maneiras no romance: a primeira é a incorporação e funcionamento de certos mitos na representação ficcional da vida dos indígenas; a segunda é a adaptação de mitos na construção da trama ficcional, sendo que o leitor possui uma participação dupla na narrativa mítica: como observador no nível da realidade ficcional e como receptor no nível da narrativa romanesca. Nesse sentido, a mitologia indígena é introduzida no romance de maneira complexa, atua como elemento estético que busca reconfigurar a posição do homem na natureza e tem efeito "contrapresente" sobre os leitores, pois induz a uma reflexão crítica sobre o desenvolvimento da civilização humana e do seu poder destrutivo, sobretudo na primeira metade do século XX. This work analyzes the integration and construction of the mythical narrative of Amazon women in the first volume of the South American trilogy "Amazonas", by Alfred Döblin. It is a novel still little known in Brazil, written between 1935 and 1937, when the author was exiled in Paris. From the perspective of Jan Assmann (1999; 1992) in relation to the notions of foundational mitomotricity and counter-present mitomotricity, we focus on how the mythical narrative of Amazon women is incorporated into the trilogy and what meanings it raises. We consider that the author operates in two ways in the novel: the first is the incorporation and functioning of certain myths in the fictional representation of the life of the indigenous people; the second is the adaptation of myths in the construction of the fictional plot, with the reader having a dual participation in the mythical narrative: as an observer at the level of fictional reality and as a receiver at the level of the novelistic narrative. In this sense, indigenous mythology is introduced in the novel in a complex way, acts as an aesthetic element that seeks to reconfigure the position of man in nature and has a "counter-present" effect on readers, as it induces a critical reflection on the development of human civilization and of its destructive power, especially in the first half of the 20th century.

    The current paper discusses Herta Müller's poetry essays in the context of contemporary autobiographical German writing. The question of referentiality of her essays will receive special attention; in these writings several aesthetic characteristics of autobiographical composition will also be shown. Furthermore, it will be demonstrated to what extent the effect of her essayistic writing is not only aesthetic, but also and mainly political. No presente artigo discute-se o ensaísmo poetológico de Herta Müller no contexto da escrita autobiográfica alemã contemporânea. A questão da referencialidade de seus ensaios receberá especial atenção; nesses textos também serão apontadas as diversas características estéticas da composição autobiográfica. No mais, demonstra-se em que medida o efeito de sua escrita ensaística não é somente estético mas também e, principalmente, político.

    A concepção filosófica de Hölderlin compõe-se de duas percepções fundamentais: a indivisibilidade do racional e do sensível presente na ideia platônica de beleza, e a compreensão, de fundo espinosista, de que a unidade assim pensada apreende-se como diferenciada em si mesma. O presente artigo aborda a primeira percepção. Em fins de 1794, Hölderlin abandona o preceptorado na casa dos von Kalb e muda-se para Iena, onde trabalha em seu "Hipérion" e assiste às preleções de Fichte. No entanto ele não chega na cidade de mãos vazias. Numa carta a Christian Neuffer, de outubro de 1794, Hölderlin manifesta a intenção de escrever um ensaio sobre as ideias estéticas de Kant, que deveria servir como comentário do "Fedro", de Platão, ao mesmo tempo que avançaria, mais do que Schiller teria ousado, para além do limite kantiano através de uma simplificação de sua estética. Como o texto jamais foi escrito, o presente trabalho apresenta os elementos articulados na carta e procura reconstituir os marcos gerais do ensaio planejado. Hölderlin's philosophical conception structures itself upon two insights: the indivisibility between sensibility and reason, such as potentially thought in the Platonic idea of beauty, and the Spinozistic inspired view of a unity differentiated in itself. The aim of this article is to address the former. Towards the end of 1794, Hölderlin left his job as a preceptor, at von Kalb's, and moves to Jena, where he works on his "Hyperion" and attends to Fichte's lectures. Nevertheless, he does not come to town empty-handed: before arriving, Hölderlin writes to Christian Neuffer and expresses the wish to draw up an essay on Kant's aesthetic ideas, which would both comment upon Plato's "Phaedrus" and take a step far beyond Kant by means of a simplification of his theory of beauty. In this matter, Hölderlin considered that Schiller had failed to trespass on the Kantian boundary, but states that he should have dared to. Once the essay has never been written, I will present the elements wherein the writing was conceived, and thus restore its general guidelines.

    O artigo aponta afinidades entre os pensamentos de Erich Auerbach e Siegfried Kracauer, discutindo procedimentos metodológicos e questões críticas recorrentes. A ênfase recai sobre matizes e implicações de suas concepções de realismo estético e sobre o interesse de seus trabalhos para o debate teórico e para o exercício da crítica literária hoje. This article points out affinities between Erich Auerbach and Siegfried Kracauer's thoughts by discussing recurring methodological procedures and critical issues. The focus is on nuances and implications of their aesthetic realism conceptions and on the relevance of their works for the theoretical debate and for the exercise of literary criticism nowadays.

    Exploro neste trabalho o poema "Todesfuge", do poeta e tradutor alemão Paul Celan, e, a partir dele, teço relações com concepções advindas do ideário do linguista, poeta e tradutor francês Henri Meschonnic. As temáticas da Ética e da Estética, caras aos dois autores, fazem-se presentes. No decorrer da análise de "Todesfuge", chamo a atenção, particularmente, para a forma da tradução de seu título em língua portuguesa, assim como para as eventuais decorrências dessas escolhas. I explore, in this paper, the poem "Todesfuge", by the German poet and translator Paul Celan, and based on it I make connections with some conceptions present in Henri Meschonnic's work as a French linguist, poet and translator. I explore the themes of Ethics and Esthetics, so relevant for both authors. In the course of the analysis of "Todesfuge", I particularly call the attention to the way its title has been translated into Portuguese, as well as to the consequences of such choices.

    O trabalho retoma a análise freudiana de "Der Sandmann", presente num ensaio de 1919 que se provou paradigmático para as interpretações futuras da obra de E. T. A. Hoffmann. No dito ensaio, o pai da psicanálise faz diversos juízos sobre a construção argumentativa da novela romântica que, nos estudos literários, vêm sendo indevidamente atribuídos ao próprio Hoffmann. Seu programa estético supostamente seria aquele de um analista dos mecanismos psíquicos de suas personagens, revelando-o como um curioso conhecedor avant la lettre das teorias psicanalíticas. É como se a criação de um imaginário horripilante que caracteriza sua prosa servisse a um impulso interpretativo das áreas ocultas da psique a fim de detrair tendências irracionalistas e animistas de suas personagens. A crítica freudiana ao animismo é um dos aspectos mais contestados por estudiosos recentes como Bruno Latour e Isabelle Stengers e, por isso, retomaremos seus argumentos num segundo momento. Então, alguns de seus argumentos serão retomados em um segundo momento do artigo para que possamos voltar a Hoffmann e reinterpretar sua estética como uma defesa de certo tipo de animismo, para além dos paradigmas psicanalíticos que nunca cessaram de o ensombrar. This paper takes up Freud's analysis of "Der Sandmann" (1816), embodied in a 1919 article which proved itself paradigmatic to interpretations of E. T. A. Hoffmann's work. In this article, the father of psychoanalysis renders several judgments about the argumentative structure of the romantic novella which, in Literary Studies, have been improperly attributed to Hoffmann himself. His aesthetical program would namely be one of an analyst of psychical mechanisms of his characters, thus revealing the author as an odd pundit of psychoanalytic theories much before their inception. It is as if the setup of the horrifying fantasy which characterizes his prose should come along an interpretative urge of the hidden areas of the psyche, so as to discredit irrational and animist tendencies in his characters. Freud's critique of animism is one of the most contested by recent scholar such as Bruno Latour and Isabelle Stengers. Hence, some of their arguments will be recovered at a second moment of this article in order that we go back to Hoffmann and reinterpret his aesthetics as a defense of a certain type of animism, beyond the psychoanalytic paradigm that never ceased to overshadow it.
