Anhand zahlreicher Beispiele wird die Handlungskoordination im Chat als ein hochgradig individuelles Projekt vorgestellt und die Frage diskutiert, inwieweit Kategorien, die sich für die Analyse von Gesprächen bewährt haben, sinnvoll auch für die Beschreibung chatbasierter Kommunikationsprozesse übernommen werden können. Die theoretischen Befunde werden in einer Fallstudie auf Basis multimodaler Daten zu Nutzeraktivitäten beim Chatten empirisch untermauert. The book presents a fundamental study of the coordination of language action in chat communication. It uses numerous examples to present the coordination of activity in chatting as a high-level individual project, and discusses the question of the extent to which analytical and descriptive categories which have proved their worth in conversational analysis can sensibly be adopted for the description of chat-based communication processes. The theoretical findings are lent empirical support by a case study based on multi-modal data of user activities while chatting.     Systemvoraussetzungen: Internetzugang, Web-Browser, mobil: iOS und Android Mit diesem Buch wird die Postkarte als Kommunikationsmedium erstmals zum zentralen Untersuchungsgegenstand erhoben und ihre spezifische Entstehungs- sowie Nutzungsgeschichte rekonstruiert. Für den Zeitraum von 1850 bis 1920 wird die Postkarte als eigenständige Kommunikationsform in Abgrenzung zu Vorläufer- und Komplementärmedien porträtiert und ihre funktionale Entwicklung als Universalkorrespondenzmittel nachgewiesen. In Anwendung eines mehrdisziplinären Analyseverfahrens werden die spezifischen Mediencharakteristika untersucht – die Verbindung aus Privatheit und Öffentlichkeit, aus Konventionalität und Originalität sowie die potenzielle Offenheit für multikodale Botschaften aus sprachlichen und bildlichen Zeichen. Eine kulturgeschichtliche Perspektivierung belegt den signifikanten Stellenwert der Postkarte für die Kommunikationskultur des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts sowie ihre Vorläuferfunktion für moderne Kurzkommunikation. Es zeigt sich, dass die Postkarte als Symptom für einen tiefgreifenden Modernisierungswandel angesehen werden muss: Das kommunikative Kleinformat beinhaltet grundlegende Aspekte von Beschleunigung, Formen der Vergesellschaftung, Mobilität, Intimitäts- und Fernbeziehungen.

    Die Arbeit untersucht Veränderungen in den Schreibmustern bei jungen Erwachsenen (Abiturienten). Materialbasis sind zwei Textkorpora: schulische Texte aus den 1990er Jahren und ein historisches Korpus mit Abiturarbeiten aus einem Zeitraum von 1881-1991. In einem ersten Teil werden textlinguistisch spezifische Merkmale aktueller Texte unter dem Begriff Parlando zusammengefaßt, beschrieben und deren Herausbildung am historischen Textkorpus nachgezeichnet. Der zweite Teil entfaltet sprachtheoretische und sprachgeschichtliche sowie sozialwissenschaftliche und bildungstheoretische Erklärungsmuster für das Phänomen Parlando. Als Ergebnis kann das Textmuster Parlando gedeutet werden als Indiz für einen soziokommunikativen Sprachwandel in der Schriftlichkeit. This is a study of changes in writing patterns displayed by young German adults (secondary school leavers). The study draws on two corpora, one of texts written at school in the 1990s, the other a historical corpus of essays written during the Abitur examination over a period ranging from 1881-1991. In Part One of the book ("Parlando as a Textual Phenomenon"), specific text-linguistic features of present-day texts are grouped under the heading "Parlando", described and their gradual emergence traced in the historical corpus. Part Two ("Looking for Explanations") draws on language theory, language history, sociology and theories of education to develop explanatory dimensions for the Parlando phenomenon. It transpires that it is possible to interpret the "Parlando" text pattern as an indication of a socio-communicative language change in written texts.

    The theory of communication series is suggested as an alternative to discourse linguistics because it focuses not only on mass communications with reference to a thematic context, but examines every social communication including interpersonal communication between two persons or within a small group. Each element of communication is subject to three areas of level: (1) speech act and speech act sequences; (2) communication (conversations, text-based communication); (3) series as purpose-constituted consequences of communication. Series can be recursively embedded, extending as far as society-related and international series. Series are diachronic quantities with evolutionary levels.     Main description: Ausgangspunkt dieser Untersuchung ist die These, daß Schreiben als eineForm komplexen sprachlichen Handelns betrachtet werden kann. Auf dieserGrundlage werden konkrete Prozesse der Textproduktion hinsichtlich ihrerrealzeitlichen Verläufe sowie der auftretenden Planungs-, Formulierungs-und Revisionsaktivitäten genauer analysiert. Die Studie kommt zu demErgebnis, daß die bisher vorliegenden und weitgehend dem kognitivenParadigma verpflichteten Einsichten in die Natur des Schreibprozesses inwesentlichen Teilen ergänzt oder modifiziert werden müssen. Main description: This study proceeds from the working assumption that writing may plausibly be regarded as a form of complex linguistic action. On this basis concrete processes characteristic of text production are subjected to closer analysis with regard to their real-time extension and the planning, wording and revision activities they involve. The conclusion arrived at is that, with their almost total allegiance to the cognitive paradigm, existing insights on the nature of the writing process need to be substantially extended or modified.

    As war and mass emigration across oceans increased the distances between ordinary people in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, many of them, previously barely literate and unaccustomed to writing, began to communicate on paper. This fascinating account explores this surge of ordinary writing, how people met the new challenges of literacy and the importance of scribal culture to the history of individual experience in modern Europe. Focusing on correspondence and other writing genres produced by French and Italian soldiers in the trenches in the First World War, as well as Spanish emigrants to the Americas, the book reveals how these writings were influenced by dialect and oral speech and were oblivious to the rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation.     Die Arbeit untersucht Veränderungen in den Schreibmustern bei jungen Erwachsenen (Abiturienten). Materialbasis sind zwei Textkorpora: schulische Texte aus den 1990er Jahren und ein historisches Korpus mit Abiturarbeiten aus einem Zeitraum von 1881-1991. In einem ersten Teil werden textlinguistisch spezifische Merkmale aktueller Texte unter dem Begriff Parlando zusammengefaßt, beschrieben und deren Herausbildung am historischen Textkorpus nachgezeichnet. Der zweite Teil entfaltet sprachtheoretische und sprachgeschichtliche sowie sozialwissenschaftliche und bildungstheoretische Erklärungsmuster für das Phänomen Parlando. Als Ergebnis kann das Textmuster Parlando gedeutet werden als Indiz für einen soziokommunikativen Sprachwandel in der Schriftlichkeit. This is a study of changes in writing patterns displayed by young German adults (secondary school leavers). The study draws on two corpora, one of texts written at school in the 1990s, the other a historical corpus of essays written during the Abitur examination over a period ranging from 1881-1991. In Part One of the book ("Parlando as a Textual Phenomenon"), specific text-linguistic features of present-day texts are grouped under the heading "Parlando", described and their gradual emergence traced in the historical corpus. Part Two ("Looking for Explanations") draws on language theory, language history, sociology and theories of education to develop explanatory dimensions for the Parlando phenomenon. It transpires that it is possible to interpret the "Parlando" text pattern as an indication of a socio-communicative language change in written texts.

This fascinating account explores this surge of ordinary writing, how people met the new challenges of literacy and the importance of scribal culture to the history of individual experience in modern Europe. Focusing on correspondence and other writing genres produced by French and Italian soldiers in the trenches in the First World War, as well as Spanish emigrants to the Americas, the book reveals how these writings were influenced by dialect and oral speech and were oblivious to the rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation.     The present volume comprises 6 highly original studies on material text cultures in different nontypographic societies stretching from the 3rd millennium cuneiform textual record of Ancient Mesopotamia to 20th century Qur'anic boards of northern and central African provenience. It provides a multidisciplinary approach to material text cultures complementary to the interdisciplinary, strongly theory-grounded research scheme of the CRC 933. Six research fellowships were awarded to outstanding young researchers for innovative, high-risk research proposals pertinent to the CRC 933's overall research scheme. Their studies contained in this volume add multidisciplinary dimension to material text culture research, satisfy the curiosity as to the applicability of the theoretical premises and methodology developed and tested by the CRC 933 to research on inscribed artefacts carried out on an international level and in different research environments and contribute to anchoring material text culture research as proposed by the CRC 933 within the tradition and broader context of other research strategies devoted to the material dimension of writing, such as the filologia materiale

    The present volume comprises 6 highly original studies on material text cultures in different nontypographic societies stretching from the 3rd millennium cuneiform textual record of Ancient Mesopotamia to 20th century Qur'anic boards of northern and central African provenience. It provides a multidisciplinary approach to material text cultures complementary to the interdisciplinary, strongly theory-grounded research scheme of the CRC 933. Six research fellowships were awarded to outstanding young researchers for innovative, high-risk research proposals pertinent to the CRC 933's overall research scheme. Their studies contained in this volume add multidisciplinary dimension to material text culture research, satisfy the curiosity as to the applicability of the theoretical premises and methodology developed and tested by the CRC 933 to research on inscribed artefacts carried out on an international level and in different research environments and contribute to anchoring material text culture research as proposed by the CRC 933 within the tradition and broader context of other research strategies devoted to the material dimension of writing, such as the filologia materiale.
