Approved by the President of the United States, July 8, 1797 -
Report of the Committee of Ways and Means, instructed, by a resolution of the ninth instant, "To enquire into the probable annual amount of the duties on stamped vellum, parchment and paper, in the respective districts; and into the proper compensation to be allowed to the supervisors and inspectors of the revenue, for their services in preparing and distributing the stamps."
