    This quantitative study, based on a computerized corpus of texts written by five men in early 16th-century Nuremberg, employs multivariate GLM statistical procedures to analyze the way linguistic, social and stylistic factors work individually and in interaction to influence variation observed in the texts. Over 70,000 tokens of variable consonants sets were analyzed, using network analysis as an alternate approach to quantification of relevant social identities, which allowed focus on individual behavior without discarding the analysis of group behaviors.The study provides evidence that conso

    The volume explores the ways in which language change is studied within the framework of Cognitive Linguistics, a semantics-based theory of language production and perception. The eleven chapters explore two kinds of changes: firstly, those which involve mental prototypes or 'best instances' of particular concepts and extensions of these prototypes, and secondly, those which relate to conceptual networks, for example via metaphor or metonymy. More specifically, the papers address syntactic and lexical change, as well as the evolution of language and changes in the expression - usually metaphoric - of emotions. In presenting a wide range of current work of this kind, the volume demonstrates the value of cross-fertilization between historical and cognitive linguistics, and is intended to open the way for further related research. The included papers are of particular relevance to those working in metaphor theory and syntactic / semantic change within Cognitive Linguistics, but will also be of interest to other historical linguists and those studying cognitive semantics and metaphor from a synchronic viewpoint

    Biographical note: Manuela Böhm, Universität Potsdam. Die Studie behandelt die sprachliche Akkulturation der Hugenotten, die als französische Protestanten am Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts auch in Brandenburg Zuflucht fanden. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Rekonstruktion der sprachlichen Integration dieser Migranten, die im Laufe der Zeit ihre französische Sprache aufgaben und zur deutschen Sprache übergingen. Die Analyse der sprachlichen Situation in drei verschiedenen Hugenottenkolonien zeigt, wie die Sprachwechselprozesse, je nach Ort und Kontext, einen sehr unterschiedlichen Verlauf nahmen. The study deals with the linguistic acculturation at the end of the 17th century of the French Protestant Huguenots, who also sought refuge in Brandenburg. The study focuses on the reconstruction of the linguistic integration of these migrants, who in the course of time gave up their native French language and went over to German. An analysis of the linguistic situation in three different Huguenot colonies shows that the processes of language change differed widely, depending on the place and context.
