Die vorgestellten empirischen Längsschnittuntersuchungen basieren auf unterschiedlichen Methoden und betrachten den Textsortenwandel teils als ein sich auf allen textuellen Ebenen abzeichnendes und teils als ein an isolierten Textmerkmalen hervortretendes Phänomen.     Satire, Humor and the Construction of Identities' conveys how satire can contribute to the construction of social subjects' identities. It attempts to provide a theoretical ground for a novel understanding of the relationship between satire and identity by finding their common denominator, namely opposition, in order to explain the mechanism through which satire can form identity. After establishing the role of opposition in satire and identity construction through a detailed analysis of various theories, it will be argued that satire can contribute to the construction of racial, ethnic, national, religious, and gender identities. Several examples from British, Persian and ancient Roman literary traditions and different epochs illustrate the theoretical discussions. The prevalence of satire and the challenges that identity has encountered in our contemporary world guarantee the significance of this study and its socio-political implications

Lejeune définit 'le pacte autobiographique' dans son livre éponyme (1975) comme 'un récit rétrospectif en prose qu'une personne réelle fait de sa propre existence', le présent ouvrage veut apporter des nuances à l'égard de la notion de 'pacte'. La manifestation de la parole du 'moi' semble en premier lieu liée à un code de bienséance qu'on a appelé 'tabou'. L'assomption de base de ce livre est que l'âge (pré)moderne en France a moins connu un 'pacte' autobiographique qu'un 'tabou' autobiographique. Un pacte se négocie sur l'arrière-fond d'un tabou par le biais de stratégies discursives, censées conférer à l'homme de lettres la légitimité et l'autorité dont il a besoin pour faire passer son texte de ce que Jürgen Habermas appelle 'la scène privée' à 'la scène publique'. Ainsi, prendre la parole, c'est créer immanquablement autour de soi une scène d'énonciation où un ethos apparaît

    "How was the complex history of Britain's languages understood by twelfth-century authors? This book argues that the social, political and linguistic upheavals that occurred in the wake of the Norman Conquest intensified later interest in the historicity of languages. An atmosphere of enquiry fostered vernacular literature's prestige and led to a newfound sense of how ancient languages could be used to convey historical claims. The vernacular hence became an important site for the construction and memorialisation of dynastic, institutional and ethnic identities. This study demonstrates the breadth of interest in the linguistic past across different social groups and the striking variety of genre used to depict it, including romance, legal translation, history, poetry and hagiography.     Satire, Humor and the Construction of Identities' conveys how satire can contribute to the construction of social subjects' identities. It attempts to provide a theoretical ground for a novel understanding of the relationship between satire and identity by finding their common denominator, namely opposition, in order to explain the mechanism through which satire can form identity. After establishing the role of opposition in satire and identity construction through a detailed analysis of various theories, it will be argued that satire can contribute to the construction of racial, ethnic, national, religious, and gender identities. Several examples from British, Persian and ancient Roman literary traditions and different epochs illustrate the theoretical discussions. The prevalence of satire and the challenges that identity has encountered in our contemporary world guarantee the significance of this study and its socio-political implications

    This book brings together researchers with cognitive-scientific and literary backgrounds to present innovative research in all three variations on the possible interactions between literary studies and cognitive science. The tripartite structure of the volume reflects a more ambitious conception of what cognitive approaches to literature are and could be than is usually encountered, and thus aims both to map out and to advance the field. The first section corresponds to what most people think of as "cognitive poetics" or "cognitive literary studies": the study of literature by literary scholars drawing on cognitive-scientific methods, findings, and/or debates to yield insights into literature. The second section demonstrates that literary scholars needn't only make use of cognitive science to study literature, but can also, in a reciprocally interdisciplinary manner, use a cognitively informed perspective on literature to offer benefits back to the cognitive sciences. Finally, the third section, "literature in cognitive science", showcases some of the ways in which literature can be a stimulating object of study and a fertile testing ground for theories and models, not only to literary scholars but also to cognitive scientists, who here engage with some key questions in cognitive literary studies with the benefit of their in-depth scientific knowledge and training.
