    Der vorliegende Beitrag diskutiert Implikationen für die grammatiktheoretische Grundunterscheidung von Argumenten und Modifikatoren, die mit der Erweiterung einer wortbasiert-valenzgrammatischen um eine musterbasiert-konstruktionsgrammatische Analyseperspektive einhergehen. Wird Argumenthaftigkeit nicht mehr (oder nicht mehr nur) relativ zum Verb, sondern relativ zur schematischen Argumentstrukturkonstruktion bestimmt, in der ein Verb gebraucht wird, hat sich das Problem einer Unterscheidung von Argumenten und Modifikatoren damit nicht erübrigt. Dem Problem, dass eine umfassende und trennscharfe Unterscheidung von Argumenten und Modifikatoren aus Sicht des Verbs allein nicht zweifelsfrei zu leisten ist, ist damit aber zumindest die grundsätzliche theoretische Sprengkraft genommen, dass der gesamte folgende Strukturaufbau auf einer unsicheren Anfangsunterscheidung aufsetzt. Gleichzeitig stellen sich im Rahmen des konstruktionsgrammatischen Perspektivwechsels aber neue Fragen. Welche Strukturen können Anspruch auf den Status einer eigenständigen Argumentstrukturkonstruktion erheben? Was sind ihre Bedeutungen und konstitutiven Bestandteile? Unter welchen Bedingungen können sie sowohl durch bestimmte lexikalische Füller als auch durch andere ihrerseits schematische Konstruktionen instanziiert werden? Wie können Argumentstrukturkonstruktionen sowohl mit Modifikatoren als auch mit anderen Argumentstrukturkonstruktionen kombiniert werden?

    In this paper, I shall discuss the semantic attachment of intersective modifiers in German coherent constructions. I shall show that a purely syntactic solution to the observable attachment ambiguity is undesirable for reasons of processing e ciency and/or massive spurious ambiguity. Instead, I shall follow Egg and Lebeth (1995) and propose an extension to Minimal Recursion Semantics, permitting the expression of underspecified semantic attachment. This rather trivial move, as we shall see, will not only be preferable for processing reasons, but it will also be more in line with the spirit of underspecified semantics, e ectively providing a compact representation of purely semantic distinctions, instead of unfolding these distinctions into a rain forest of tree representations and derivations. I will present an implementation of the underspecification approach integrated into the German HPSG developed at DFKI and compare its e ciency to an alternative implementation where semantic attachment is unfolded by means of retrieval rules.

    I argue for a new type of non-standard constituent in German; a modifier-collocational-cluster. This type of cluster combines (i) a modifier and (ii) a PP from a light-verb construction (or a Funktionsverbgefüge (FVG) as they are known in German) or a bare noun. Such strings are found in German in initial (prefield) position in certain cases of apparent multiple fronting. We are dealing with a syntax-semantics mismatch here since the modifier does not semantically modify the element with which it can first syntactically combine. I show that the modifier is a collocate of both its co-prefield element but also of the verb. I propose a schema which lexically licenses the building of such clusters and I show how we can encode information about what I refer to as collocational selection in the lexical entries of the type of lexemes involved in these multi-word strings. The analysis can be seen as lexical but does not require lexical storage of phrasal elements.
