    Japan has a growing presence throughout the Asian region, and Walter Hatch and Kozo Yamamura find that many standard Japanese business practices have been transplanted. Central to this argument is the concept of cooperation between industry and government, labor and management, and even independent firms belonging to the same keiretsu (enterprise group). This cooperation allows a complex web of quasi-integrated vertical production networks to develop. The book shows that such strategic control of technology is a unique model of globalization. The authors recommend ways in which damaging 'trade wars' between Japan and the West can be avoided, making this book essential reading for businesspeople, policymakers, academics, and students

    Warum halfen Menschen untergetauchten Juden im Nationalsozialismus? Zur Beantwortung dieser Frage hat die Forschung bislang in erster Linie auf die Persönlichkeiten der Helfer geachtet. Diese Studie erweitert diese Perspektive und untersucht 5.000 Hilfsleistungen zwischen 1.400 Helfern und Hilfsempfängern mit Rückgriff auf Methoden der Sozialen Netzwerkforschung und liefert durch die enge Verbindung von Hermeneutik und Datenanalyse auch einen Beitrag zur Methodendiskussion in den Digitalen Geisteswissenschaften. Hilfsnetzwerke hatten ihre Wurzeln in Vertrauensbeziehungen, die in Nischen überleben konnten. Oftmals in Reaktion auf die Judenverfolgung und vorangetrieben durch charismatische Persönlichkeiten, entwickelte sich über Jahre hinweg die Bereitschaft, das hohe Risiko von Hilfsleistungen einzugehen. Den Verfolgten kommt dabei eine bislang unterschätzte Bedeutung als Impulsgeber, Vermittler und Helfer zu. Anhand von sechs Berliner Fallstudien untersucht Düring aus der Perspektive von Helfern und Hilfsempfängern die soziale Verfasstheit von Hilfsbereitschaft Why did people help Jews hide from the Nazis? This study examines interactions between helpers and aid recipients using the methods of social network research. Based on six Berlin case studies, the author looks at the social determinants for willingness to help, trust formation, network effects, and the daily practice of providing help from the perspectives of helpers and aid recipients
