    The article examines the textile trace that constitutes the spatial system and narrative of Gottfried Keller's "Regine"-novella (1881). Keller’s novella can be read as an example of a shift that takes place in the literary use of textiles in the nineteenth century. Until then textiles in literature - such as the veil or the weave - were mostly of metaphorical importance. Interlaced with socio-economical changes in production, distribution and consumption of textiles, this changed toward a more material approach. In a close reading of the novella, the article shows how Keller explores und undermines the suggestive and imaginative potential of fabrics while expounding the figures' struggle with the sheer materiality of their surroundings.

    "Königliche Hoheit", Thomas Mann's second novel, is as replete with descriptions of interiors, paintings, decorations and other spatial features as it is obsessed with the very concept of 'representation'. The complex interplay of 'space' and 'signification' that underlies this text has not received much scholarly attention. This paper attempts to elucidate how "Königliche Hoheit" interweaves descriptions of space(s) and thorny semiotic issues. In the process, it seeks to show that the novel, far from being a harmless 'fairytale' grounded in Mann's own biography, is suffused with exclusionary ideology.

    The article shows, through a close reading of the two first chapters of Kafka's novel "The Trial", that the irruption of the extraordinary and inexplicable in Kafka's text is demonstrated above all in a shift of the spatial order. The disturbance of K., the derangement of his habitual surrounding becomes readable not through his interiority, but rather in a literal de-rangement of interior spaces and of their objects that are presented in their exteriority.

    Diverse Quellen zu Stefan George (1868-1933) berichten von einer Geheimsprache, die der exzentrische Dichter noch in seiner Schulzeit erfunden und über Jahre hinweg weiterentwickelt haben soll. Zweck war neben dem poetischen Aspekt vor allem die Verschlüsselung von Informationen.

     

    Ich werde im Folgenden anhand des einzig erhaltenen Fragments, zweier Verse am Ende des Gedichts "Ursprünge" von 1904, zeigen, dass das Vokabular vor allem altgriechisch mit romanischen Elementen ist. Weiterhin lässt sich nachweisen, dass die Grammatik an das damals beliebte Esperanto, eine Kunstsprache auf der Basis v.a. romanischer Sprachen (Latein) mit vereinfachter Grammatik, angelehnt ist.
