    Gramatica dependenţială, aşa cum a fost elaborată în spaţiul de limbă germană, în special de Ulrich Engel, a fost receptată în lingvistica românească cu mare întârziere. Lucrarea de faţă se concentrează asupra unui fenomen lingvistic specific, fraza nominală, şi analizează un text subsumabil limbajului juridic din perspectiva nucleelor nominale formate de cuvinte compuse în limba germană. Pornind de la conceptul de valenţă se analizează din perspectivă contrastivă varianta textului în limba germană şi traducerea în limba română. Se evidenţiază diferenţele structurale dintre cele două limbi la nivelul sintactic şi semantic, diferenţe care, dacă nu sunt sesizate şi interpretate corect, au drept repercusiuni traduceri deficitare. The dependential grammar, as it was elaborated within the German space, especially by Ulrich Engel, has been accepted by Romanian linguistics after a long period. This paper focuses on a specific linguistic phenomenon, the nominal phrase, and analyses, from the nominal nuclei perspective, a text subordinated to the law register, formed by compound words in German. Starting from the valence concept, the German text version and its Romanian translation are analysed from the contrastive perspective. The structural differences between the two languages are distinguished at a syntactic and semantic level. If these differences are not observed and correctly interpreted, they have adverse translations as a result.

    Analizând contactul intercultural româno-german iniţiat pe calea traducerilor, prezentând momente istorice, biografice şi estetice de vârf, se supun analizei criteriile ce permit stabilirea unor paradigme calitative de structură, proces şi eficienţă. La începutul traducerilor din literatura cultă pare-se că a stat şi Mihail Kogălniceanu cu a sa traducere din Asachi (“Odă către Italia”, apărută în 1837 la Berlin). Traduceri mult mai sistematice şi cu o mai largă răspândire în spaţiul european şi un ecou deosebit se datorează unor traducători ca Josef Marlin, Carmen Sylva, Hermann Roth, Alfred Margul-Sperber, Oskar Pastior, Dieter Roth, Werner Söllner, ale căror motivaţii, preferinţe, teoretizări şi rang se recontextualizează exemplificându-se astfel diferite stadii în istoria propagării literaturii române culte şi populare, subliniindu-se situaţia sociologică actuală de unicitate, datorităfaptului că în prezent trăiesc foarte mulţi potenţiali traducători de literatură română în spaţiul lingvistic german. Cel mai notabil succes de mijlocire literară se datorează în prezent lui Gerhardt Csejka din Frankfurt pe Main, care (traducând şi pentru reviste româneşti online) a devenit traducătorul fidel al autorului Mircea Cărtărescu. Analysing the Romanian-German intercultural contact initiated through translations, presenting important historical, biographical and esthetical moments, the criteria that allow the determination of some qualitative structural paradigms as well as of some efficiency paradigms are being analyzed. At the beginnings of the translations of high literature seems to have been Mihail Kogalniceanu as well, with his translation of Asachi (“Odă către Italia”, which appeared in Berlin in 1837). Much more systematic translations which had a broader spread in Europe and a great echo come from translators such as Josef Marlin, Carmen Sylva, Hermann Roth, Alfred Margul-Sperber, Oskar Pastior, Dieter Roth, Werner Söllner, whose motivations, preferences, theoretizations and rank are recontextualising themselves, thus different stages in the history of high and popular Romanian literature propagation being analyzed, whereas the actual present sociological situation is being delineated, because a lot of potential translators of Romanian literature live in the German linguistic space at present. The most notable success of literary translation comes from Gerhardt Csejka from Frankfurt on the Main who (translating for online Romanian journals as well) has become the loyal translator of the Romanian poet Mircea Cărtărescu.

    Lucrarea doreşte să realizeze o analiză succintă a diferenţelor dintre două traduceri reprezentative ale operei Faust de Johann Wolfgang Goethe în limba română, cea a lui Lucian Blaga şi cea a lui Ştefan Augustin Doinaş, luând ca „mostră” de text scena Noaptea din partea întâia a tragediei. Dat fiind că scena conţine o aglomerare relativ mare de noţiuni cu o încărcătură semantică semnificativă, lucrarea de faţă analizează elementele lexicale esenţiale la nivelul semantic al textului, verificând echivalenţa din versiunile în limba română. The article offers a brief analysis of the differences between the two representative translations of Johann Wolfgang Goethe’s Faust into Romanian, that of Lucian Blaga and that of Ştefan Augustin Doinaş, using the example of the scene Night of the First Part of the Tragedy. Considering that the scene comprises a relatively great number of notions with suggestive semantic charge, the present paper analyses the fundamental lexical units at the semantic level of the text, by checking the equivalence between the Romanian translations and the German original.

    The adequate assessment of lexicographical approaches to phraseologisms requires certain evaluation criteria. Among the aspects to be assessed are, besides the arrangement of the front, middle and back matter and the selection of material, the macrostructural organization and the quality of the microstructural components. The present article focuses on the lexicographical standards set for phraseological dictionaries by metalexicographical researchers in the field of German Studies, while it critically examines the macro- and microstructural profile of special phraseological dictionaries developed in Romania with German as a target and source language. This examination has revealed serious shortcomings regarding both the conceptual orientation and the construction of dictionary entries. These shortcomings may influence the use of dictionaries by translators and non-native speakers as well, who represent the actual target group.

    Gradation and intensification can be subject to different linguistic procedures. The present paper focuses on aspects of intensification and gradation by means of word formation in adjectives. The argument is that German and Romanian, as languages belonging to different language families, operate with different means to express high intensity in adjectives. The critical analysis on dictionary items (German-Romanian) aims at disclosing how mental representations are being formally structured at language level. It argues that correct equivalence in translation work can be achieved only if the deep structure level is properly understood by the translator.

Thus, within one and the same language there are as many legal languages as there are legal orders that use that particular language as their legal language. 3) The representation of culture in legal texts is encountered both on word and on text level: on the one hand legal terms have often been referred to as culturemes, as they are informed by the respective legal order; on the other hand texts are being regarded as cultural products as they depend on the particular legal order.

    The present article concentrates on the activity of Hermine Pilder-Klein as theoretician and translation critic. (Hermine Pilder-Klein: translator from Romanian to German of the second half of the 20th century carried out 80 translations from this cultural space in the period 1933-1972. Horst Schuller makes reference to 2 articles that are kept in the archive of the Museum of Gundelsheim: 1. a review of the volume Siebenbürgisch Sächsisches Wörterbuch (Transylvanian Saxon Dictionary) published in Bucharest. The review was published in the No. 4/1972 of the periodical Vierteljahresblätter in München; 2. a critical presentation of the volume Rumänische Volksmärchen (Romanian Folk Tales) edited by Ovidiu Bârlea and Felix Karlinger (the volume was published in 1969 in Düsseldorf/Köln: Eugen Diederichs Verlag), the work bearing the title Übersetzung-Schlüssel und Brücke (Translation – Key and Bridge) (1977), remained unpublished and was taken over by Horst Schuller in the present article.

    Presenting the actual theoretical debates (of Göhlich, Welsch, de Nancy, Bachmann-Medick) with respect to the concept of transculturality, underlining the related aspects such as hybridity, intertextuality, globalisation, the author traces the aspects of transculturality in the process of the translations from Romanian to German. The success of the literary transfer is conditioned by the intra- and intercultural competence, by the knowledge of the identity factors, of the specific operational frame and of the key texts (translations or originals) from the literatures that come into contact with it. As in other countries, where there are specific basic cultural notions with a certain symbolic charge like „birch” in Russia, „hut” in the Czech republic, the traditional cultural universe affirmatively or polemically resorts to cultural words such as „plai” (poetic realm), „codru” (forest), „mioritic” (mioritical). Tracing by means of rich examples the history of translations, the author distinguishes the stages of translations motivated by philological, ethnographic, political interests and lastly and parallel to it, by aesthetical interests. These translations contribute to the identitary image of the Romanians, being normally recorded with an increased attention and sensibility. Concretely applying the discussed theoretical concepts on a text, the author presents the German translation of an essayistic text by Andrei Pleşu, arguing the possible interest of the German public for the writer, emphasizing the ironical hybrid and ludic signs that are important for the translation, with all untranslatabilities of the word games, in order to find at least an adequate, if not equivalent, transfer. The annotations and the translation (starting with the analysis of the title) constitute a demonstration of transculturality applied live.

    The following analysis is based on a practical experience of translation and tries to offer a series of solutions to the problem posed by culture-specific elements known in German translation studies as „Realia”. The recent translation studies generally acknoledge the importance of maintaining certain culture-specific elements as such in the target text; Antoine Berman speaks about ethic versus ethnocentric translation. Several authors describe four possible solutions for dealing with culture-specific elements in translation in order to preserve to a certain degree the cultural identity of the target text. The translation of „Realia” belonging to the sphere of nationalsocialism raised a series of difficulties during the actual translation of Das Buch Hitler, a document which was put together for Stalin by soviet intelligence in the years following WW II. Three types of „Realia” were identified in the source text and treated as such in the translation, following the theoretical guidelines proposed by Markussen and Berman.

    Sibiu was in the 19th century an important centre, with a vivid cultural life, despite of the difficult political context in Transylvania. The close cohabitation of the Romanian and German people leads to a very important multicultural experience. The study deals with the ways of reception of German culture in the Romanian press of the 19th century reflected in the three most important publications of the time: Telegraful Român, Tribuna and Transilvania. The results of the research are presented in thematic groups (translations, theatre and concert announcements, reviews, travel literature, aphoristic or biographical writings).

    The present paper reflects upon the relevance of certain criteria that are decisive for the quality of a dictionary and interrelates them with the current bilingual lexicographic practice in Romania concerned with German language. The focus lies here on the lexicographic registration and presentation of phraseologisms in a general bilingual dictionary, which, contrary to phraseological dictionaries, is known not to be specialized in the codification of the phraseological stock. For illustration purpose the author provides a critical analysis of the new edition of the German-Romanian Comprehensive Dictionary published by the Romanian Academy (2007). The paper aims at showing to what extent the description of the selected phraseologisms is adequate with regard to potential users and the specifics of phraseological phenomena.

    This study indicates research areas from the perspective of the German and Romanian language phraseology, areas that are exemplified within the phraseosemantic field of „communication”.     The paper presents some aspects connected to the system of diminution in German and Romanian, by offering a comparative analysis of the German version of the fairy tale “Snow White” and six Romanian translations of the text. The focus lies on the ways in which the nouns in the text are marked as ‘diminutives’ in German (mainly by adding suffixes, the synthetic diminutives) and the equivalences suggested by the Romanian translators. Although the category ‘diminution’ is common to both languages, there are significant differences in the way it is linguistically expressed. A main part of the paper is devoted to these differences and their reflection in the text.

    This article discusses one of many possible strategies that translators use in rendering an idiom from a L1 to a L2, i.e. the verbatim or the literal translation. The points of view according to this strategy differ very much among the researchers: some treat them as semantic false friends. Based on the replies to a questionnaire that was handed out to 10 Romanian native speakers, one could state that the context in which the literal translation of a source-idiom is situated plays an important role for the understanding of the text. Beyond that, the translation of an idiom cannot be judged only by virtue of the denotative meaning – the pragmatic function of the translation as a whole is just as important. The questionnaire was compiled of literal translations of Swedish idioms into Romanian (from different translations of different novels). The article further discusses some of the text examples from this questionnaire and describes some of the phenomena related to idioms which hinder the so-called idiom-understanding and which probably led to misinterpretation and a failed literal translation.

    The present study intends to analyze the literary personality of the German-language writer and translator Alfred Margul-Sperber and his approach to Romanian folk poetry and Romanian folk ballads. Alfred Margul-Sperber is known as a classical German-language poet from Romania, as a discoverer and supporter of literary talent, but also as a brilliant translator. Impressions from his childhood and life experiences contributed to Alfred MargulSperber’s interest for Romanian poets and especially for Romanian folk poetry, which left its own mark on Sperber’s literary creation. The author was fascinated by its plurality of forms, its richness of rhymes, images and sounds. The masterpiece of Romanian folk poetry, “Mioriţa/The little Ewe”-ballad raised the interest of the multilingual translator who proved his outstanding talent by translating the original text into German as accurately as possible and remarkably close to the spirit of the Romanian folk poetry, thus popularizing it among the German readers at home and abroad.

    In the paper, all German surnames (63 different names) and also the Romanian ones (45 different names) are analyzed from a semantic and statistic perspective. These family names belong to the inhabitants of Petreºti/Sebeº who were the victims of the First World War, of the Second World War and of the communist régime. The names of these 216 people were taken from the commemorative plaques from the Lutheran Protestant Church and on the Heroes’ Monument placed in the yard of the city’s Orthodox Church.

    By focusing human factors by the phraseological nomination, it becomes possible to expose obvious cases as reflections of everyday collective observations, experiences and evaluations considering a certain behavior or action. The subject of this investigation is differently molded phraseological units that permit to be listed under the hypernym ‘THE END OF LIFE BY HUMAN BEINGS’. The execution follows up the role of the linguistic image by the constitution of a slice of reality and gives representative examples of the metaphorization of the concept ‚DECEASE‘ in German, Romanian and Swedish. Productive source domains for the conceptualization of this notion will be considered; this due to the insight that conceptual spheres give keys to thought models, values and ideals anchored in the language.

    The Romanian folk poetry, especially the Romanian folk ballad raised the interest of German translators in the 19th century, who proved the size of their talent by translating the ballads in German and by popularizing them among the German readers in the country and abroad. The paper focuses on aspects of translation motifs of five German authors (W. von Kotzebue, C.F.W. Rudow, A. Franken, A. Forstenheim, Carmen Sylva) taking into account their life experiences, professional commitments and friendship for the Romanians. The study aims to highlight the principles and difficulties of translation as a result of the authors’ wish to translate the original text as accurately as possible and as close as possible to the spirit of the Romanian folk poetry.

    This paper explores the context and reasons for the extensive translation of legal texts from German into Romanian in Bukovina during the Habsburg period (1775–1918) and immediately following the unification with the Romanian Kingdom. The Austrian civil code from 1811 was translated in the three important periods of translation, corresponding to the major administrative changes in the province. The paper analyses the different translations and their impact on the Romanian legislation, legal terminology and juridical style.

    The study deals with two texts from the year 1654 that belong to the administrative and judicial documents of The Romanian National Archives in Sibiu. The translation of these documents into Romanian is very important from a historical and linguistic point of view as it reveals to the Romanian reader major aspects regarding the history of Transylvania and the evolution of the German language in this area in the 17th century. The translational analysis goes from Antoine Berman’s ethnocentric vs. ethical theory to Julianne House’s theory of the „overt translation”, process in which the translator decides on a combination of elements from both theories.

    The subject of the present study represents the artistic personality of the German writer Mite Kremnitz (1852-1916), which takes into consideration both facets of her work, as a translator and as a novelist. On the one hand and as an author in her own right, Mite Kremnitz is the carrier of Romanian realities; on the other hand she has the merit of having been the first one to translate contemporary literature from Romanian into German.
