    Die in der Bibel belegte hebräische Steinbezeichnung ‚lšm‘ (Exodus 28,19 par. 39,12) erklärt sich über das von den römischen Autoren Plinius und Tacitus bezeugte germanische Lehnwort ‚gl(a)esum‘ als Bezeichnung für den baltischen Bernstein. In der Antike gelangte der baltische Bernstein über mehrere Handelsrouten in den Mittelmeerraum. Eine der Routen endete im antiken Ligurien. So entstand die Vorstellung des ligurischen Bernsteins. Die Septuaginta benutzt zur Wiedergabe von hebräisch ‚lšm‘ das griechische Wort ‚λιγύριον‘, ein Neologismus zur Bezeichnung des ligurischen Bernsteins. Epiphanius von Salamis befasste sich eingehend mit diesem Stein. Ausführlich erörterte er alternative Bezeichnungen wie ‚λυγγούριον‘ (‚λυγκούριον‘), das in der Antike als „Luchs-Urin“ gedeutet wurde. Der Band zeichnet die Namensgeschichte des baltischen Bernsteins detailliert nach und veranschaulicht die Ausführungen durch ausgewählte Illustrationen.

    Chariton of Aphrodisias’ ‘Callirhoe’ is the first Greek novel transmitted to us in its entirety, thanks to a manuscript, codex Florentinus Laurentianus Conv. Soppr. 627 (F), dated to the end of the 13th century. Three papyri (ca. 200 AD) and the so-called Codex Thebanus (7th century), which is now not extant, are witnesses to brief passages of the text. A comparison of the text transmitted by F and the papyri with the text of the Thebanus shows significant divergences, which cannot always be explained away as ordinary copyist mistakes. These divergences are collected in the critical apparatus of this new edition, together with the numerous conjectures made by scholars. A succinct and full introduction offers the keys to Chariton’s language and text. In sum, this critical edition takes account of the more recent developments in the research on Chariton’s text and serves as reference text for the accompanying commentary on this novel by M. Baumbach and M. Sanz Morales.

    To effectively design online tools and develop sophisticated programs, for the teaching of Ancient Greek language, there is a clear need for lexical resources that provide semantic links with Modern Greek. This paper proposes a microstructure for an online Ancient Greek to Modern Greek thesaurus (AMGthes) that serves educational purposes. The terms of this bilingual thesaurus have been selected from reference Ancient Greek texts, taught and studied during lower and upper secondary education in Greece. The main objective here is to build a semantic map that helps students find relevant and semanti- cally related terms (synonyms and antonyms) in Ancient Greek, and then provide a rich set of suitable translations and definitions in Modern Greek. Designed to be an online resource, the thesaurus is being developed using web technologies, and thus will be available to every school and university student that pursues a degree in digital humanities.
