'Photography: Theory, Practice, and Debate'

The aim of the Seminar is to create a forum for researchers, teachers, postgraduate students, photographers, photo-journalists, museum curators, and others working in any area of the humanities or social sciences, to explore the historical, memorialist, theoretical, cultural, social, political, technical and aesthetic use and practice of photography across national and disciplinary boundaries. It is expected that the seminars will lead to the organisation of conferences, collaborative research projects and a series of edited articles and books.

Seminar Dates
The Seminar is scheduled to run during the Spring and Autumn terms of 2006-07 on Monday evenings from 6.00 to 8.00pm at the IGRS, Stewart House, Russell Square, Room 273/274 on the following dates depending on participation:

* 16 October 2006
* 23 October 2006
* 4 December 2006
* 11 December 2006
* 5 February 2007
* 12 February 2007
* 19 February 2007
* 14 May 2007

Seminars will consist either of one 40-50 minute paper given by an invited speaker or two short papers of 20 minutes each followed by questions and group discussion. Postgraduate students are actively encouraged to participate.

Study Day
Associated whole-day event on: Saturday 7 July 2007, 10.30am - 4.30pm.

Deadline for submission of Seminar Proposals (or at least firm indication of willingness to give a paper): 31 July 06.
Participants should state their preferred dates for presenting their paper from the choice given. Maximum flexibility in dates would be appreciated.

Deadline for submission of Study Day Proposals: 2 October 06.
Participants should states whether they wish to give a 20 or 40 min paper or if they are flexible and could do either.

Anyone interested in just attending the Seminars should contact Colette Wilson also as she's building up a distribution list and will send out details of the draft programme in a few week's time.
