Titellast-minute GTAship for MA or PhD student in German at Wayne State (Detroit)
BeschreibungThe German faculty in the Department of Classical and Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Wayne State University in Detroit announces a Graduate Teaching Assistant position for students at the M.A. or Ph.D. level starting in (late) August 2015. The funding includes coverage of tuition and fees plus a stipend of approximately $15,500 per year and is renewable annually for up to two years for M.A. students and up to five years for Ph.D. students. Each student who is awarded a Graduate Teaching Assistantship will teach three beginning German language classes per year and be trained thoroughly in the methodologies and best practices of language teaching.

Additionally, WSU also offers the Munich Graduate Exchange Fellowship, which allows both M.A. and Ph.D. students to spend a year at the Ludwig Maximillians Universität in Munich as well as two scholarships which fund Ph.D. students fully for one year each and another scholarship that funds PhD students fully for up to three years of their graduate work. These fellowships are offered annually on a competitive basis. As we work closely with our students on their applications, the department in general and the German area in particular have been very successful in securing these generous funding sources for our students.

Our graduate students are grounded in 18th- through 21st-century literary and cultural studies in a manner that reflects both breadth and depth of coverage. The German faculty are dedicated mentors with significant scholarly credentials and extensive teaching experiences in such diverse interdisciplinary fields as East German and post-Wende literature, film, and popular culture; minority studies; film studies; feminism, women and gender studies; memory, trauma and Holocaust studies; sociolinguistics; German-American studies; folklore and fairy tale studies.
