Applications are invited for the permanent post of University Lecturer in Modern German Studies, specialising in the literature, thought and culture of the German-speaking world in the period 1770-1832. The successful candidate will be required to give lectures, seminars and tutorials to undergraduate students, to participate in the teaching of taught MPhil courses for MML, and to supervise graduate students. They will be expected to assist in the setting and marking of undergraduate examinations, and to undertake Departmental administrative duties as necessary. The appointee will also be expected to undertake research and publish, contributing to the research profile of the Department. Candidates will be educated to degree level, normally with a PhD in a relevant field, a strong record of internationally important research and publication (or clear evidence of potential publication) in the literature, thought and culture of the German-speaking world in the period 1770-1832. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience of giving lectures and seminars to undergraduate students and have prior experience of developing teaching material for lectures and seminars. Preference may be given to a candidate with additional expertise in later modern periods.

The post is based at the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages, in the city of Cambridge, UK.

Salary will be in the range of £38,511 - £48,743 per annum (between points 49 and 57 of the University’s pay scale). The post is permanent, subject to the successful completion of a probationary period of five years. The post-holder will be entitled to join the Universities Superannuation Pension Scheme. In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a supplement to the salary range stated for this role of up to 10% for 5 years. Any such supplement would be awarded on the basis of a demonstrable history of exceptional achievement and is entirely at the discretion of the University.
