BeschreibungOn 26-27th February 2015, the University of Nottingham will host the award-winning German poet and writer Ulrike Almut Sandig and her acclaimed translator, Professor Karen Leeder. The following events will be open to a small number of external attendees, sometimes subject to a small fee to cover refreshments. CALL FOR PAPERS: anyone - including postgraduates - who is interested in giving a short (c. 15 minute) paper on any aspect of Sandig’s work for the Research Symposium on 27th February is asked to contact the organisers with a brief abstract at the email addresses above.

We hope you can join us to celebrate Sandig’s work during her first extended visit to the UK.

Thursday 26th February

13.20-16.30: Translation workshop (£5 full, £3 postgraduates)
• Welcome address, introductions and short parallel readings by Ulrike Almut Sandig and her translator Professor Karen Leeder (University of Oxford)
• Presentation by Dr. Maike Oergel of the University of Nottingham’s Centre for Translation and Comparative Cultural Inquiry on literary translation
• Group translation work
• Plenary readings of translations and discussion of translation strategies.

17.00-19.00: Encounters: Writers and Translators in Conversation: Ulrike Almut Sandig and Karen Leeder (Sponsored by the Keith Spalding Bequest/IMLR)
• Discussion between Ulrike Almut Sandig and her translator Professor Karen Leeder (University of Oxford)
• Hosted by Dr Heike Bartel (University of Nottingham) and with a contribution from Charlotte Ryland (New Books in German)

Friday 27th February

10.00-13.30: Research Symposium (£7 full/£5 postgraduates)
• Research symposium on Sandig’s work with readings by the author
• 2-3 research papers on Sandig’s work with coffee breaks and discussion
• Including buffet lunch
