Rethinking Performance Studies under technological conditions
27. – 29.1.2015, Lüneburg

Centre for Digital Cultures, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg
Sülztorstraße 21 - 35, 21335 Lüneburg

Concept: Art and Civic Media (ACM), Digital Cultures Research Lab (DCRL)

In cooperation with the Institute for Design Research, Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK)

The symposium asks how performance as well as performativity change under the technological conditions of digital cultures and therefore influences central concepts of performance studies. Which practices and concepts of presence, atmospheres, affects as well as perceptions and agency relate to the various forms of mediatised and distributed performances? And how are these distributed between technical objects, algorithmic infrastructures and human performances?

The symposium is an inquiry into the physicality and performativity of human actors in digital cultures as well as the performativity and agency of data. We explore their history as well as their entanglement in order to investigate the reciproque relationship between media and human beings.
