|Titel||Ph.D. Fellowships - Dept. of German/Northwestern University, Evanston|
|Beschreibung||The Department of German Literature and Critical Thought at Northwestern University announces that it will award in March/April 2015 up to four fellowships for doctoral study beginning in September 2015.
The fellowships offer 5 years of full support (including summers). They include the payment of tuition, a monthly stipend of roughly $2000, health insurance, and some miscellaneous fees. During 3 of the 5 years, fellows serve as teaching assistants. In addition, the Department has ample funds to support graduate student attendance at conferences, an active and vibrant lecture and colloquium series, an ongoing exchange programs with several German universities, and a Max Kade supported guest professor position (currently Professor Anselm Haverkamp). We are also closely associated with the Northwestern Paris Program in Critical Theory, directed by Professor Samuel Weber, which offers students additional fellowship aid to spend a year in Paris working on current theoretical topics and pursuing research.
In addition, the department offers participation in a variety of interdisciplinary clusters and certificates, enabling Ph.D. students to join a cohort of students not only in their degree program but also in other departments and programs (Critical Theory, Comparative Literary Studies, Jewish Studies etc.). Acceptance into a cluster comes with an additional annual stipend of $2500.
Drawing on its excellent faculty and their diverse specializations, the Department recently has redesigned its curriculum around 6 core seminars, supplemented by 12 elective classes, for a total course requirement of 18 quarter classes over two years. Prospective applicants interested in further details on the curriculum, the scholarly accomplishments of the faculty, and the admissions process are invited to consult the Graduate School’s website (http://www.tgs.northwestern.edu/admission/index.html); the Department's website (http://www.german.northwestern.edu) or to contact Professor Jörg Kreienbrock for more information at email@example.com.
The deadline for applications is Dec. 15, 2014.
