School of Modern Languages, Salary - negotiable Start Date: 1 August 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding scholar with an international reputation in any area of German Studies from 1 August 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter. You will have an internationally recognised record of research excellence in any field of German Studies, and demonstrable potential for providing intellectual leadership in the University’s vibrant research culture. You will have a record of teaching excellence at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will have had success in securing, and plans for the further capture of, research funding. Applications from native speakers of German are welcomed, with the expectation that such applicants will be highly proficient in spoken and written English and have experience of the UK Higher Education system.

The Department of German enjoys an outstanding reputation and was ranked equal 2nd in the UK in RAE 2008. The Department of German, School of Modern Languages, Faculty of Arts and University of St Andrews all consistently feature in in the top 10 in the UK in league tables compiled by The Times, The Sunday Times, The Guardian, The Independent and the National Student Survey. The University was ranked 3rd in the UK in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2015, and as one of the top 100 universities in the world for the eighth year in succession in the QS World University Ranking 2015. The Department attracts highly qualified and motivated students, and contributes actively to the vibrant research environment of the School of Modern Languages (including Arabic, Comparative Literature, French, German, Italian, Persian, Russian, Spanish) and of the Faculty of Arts.
