|Titel||Postdoctoral Opportunities in German Studies at the University of Warwick|
|Beschreibung||The Department of German Studies in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Warwick (http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/german) would like to support outstanding post-doctoral scholars making applications to the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme. For further information on eligibility and deadlines see below.
Warwick is one of the leading research universities in the UK (http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/about/profile/research). The Department of German Studies is renowned for its strong cultural studies profile, considering cultural production in the context of historical, social, and political developments. Research interests in the department range across the whole of the modern period, from the eighteenth-century Enlightenment to the present day, with notable areas of expertise in constructions of nation, gender and ethnicity, German Romanticism, 18th and 19th century drama, the culture of the Weimar period, prison literature, representations of violence, German-Jewish literature, antisemitism, cultures of memory, post-war poetry, diasporic cultures (film and literature), travel writing, post-war cinema (including East German cinema), Orientalism, Islam and East-West cultural differences within German traditions, as well as the role played by German speaking thinkers and practitioners in the development of the critical canon of cultural theory and film theory. We are interested in supporting research projects in any of these and related areas.

The department offers a lively research culture and strong cross-disciplinary ties to other departments in the Humanities, and we also welcome applications for suitable cross-disciplinary projects. Collaborative research within the Humanities is fostered by a number of interdisciplinary research centres (more information at http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/hrc/aboutus/researchcentres), such as the Humanities Research Centre, the Centre for Research in Philosophy, Literature and the Arts, the Centre for the Study of the Renaissance, the Warwick Eighteenth Century Centre or the Global History and Culture Centre.
Details of the British Academy Postdoctoral Scheme (for UK and EU/EEA citizens or applicants holding a doctorate from a UK university or having been previously employed in UK academia) can be found here:
The final deadline for British Academy first stage applications is 8 October 2014.
We would strongly welcome enquiries from eligible post-doctoral candidates. Applicants wishing to be supported for one of these fellowships should make preliminary contact to discuss the suitability of their proposal with the Director of Graduate Studies, Dr James Hodkinson (email@example.com) as soon as possible and, in any event, by 15 September 2014.
Draft applications that we can support for a BA Postdoctoral Fellowship need to be submitted to the Department as soon as possible, and by 21 September at the latest to allow for internal peer review and feedback in time for the British Academy deadline of 8 October. We would normally expect applicants to have passed their viva/Disputation and to have at least two high quality published articles or equivalent. Please send applications and project outlines in English.
