|Beschreibung||Assistantships for graduates completing an MA or PhD in German Studies
We are offering an assistantship for a graduate wishing to complete an MA or PhD in the following area:
Transnational spaces/movement in German literature
Proposals addressing aspects of this topic from the perspective of comparative literature, cultural studies/Kulturwissenschaften, linguistics and literature, migration studies, as well as those involving other media (visual media, New Media, policy documents etc.), will also be considered. For informal enquiries about feasible research topics and general queries please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. The thesis may be in German or English.
We provide a supportive and encouraging environment for postgraduate students as part of a structured supervision programme run by the department. Due to its size and ethos, which may distinguish it from larger institutions, the college is able to offer a motivating framework and support interdisciplinary co-operation as well as access to international research groups, projects and resources. Postgraduate students working in the broader area of transnational studies will have the opportunity to participate in the work of the Irish Centre of Transnational Studies (ICTS). The ICTS is linked to several national and international research centres and institutes. It has provided the framework for a number of international projects and been awarded internal and external funding.
The assistantships, which are awarded by the Department of German Studies on a competitive basis, are worth €6,900 per year and also include a fee waiver for a maximum of 3 years. A minimum entry requirement is a degree in German and/or sufficient language competency. Assistantships involve the teaching of tutorials, and would in this case also include an active role in the work of the ICTS. Teaching and administrative duties would not exceed 6 hours per week and are limited to the teaching semester. Assistantships normally commence on 1 September or 1 January.
A draft proposal of approximately 2,000 words, a bibliography and a CV must be submitted to email@example.com by 30 June 2014. These may be completed in German or English. Applications supported by the Department will then be finalised by the applicant and forwarded to the Postgraduate Office in the course of July. Further information on the application process is available here. You can find information on the Research and Graduate School at Mary Immaculate College here. (Please disregard the application deadline given on the website of the R&GS).
