BeschreibungThe Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for its Ph.D. program in German Studies.

The German Studies Ph.D. at CU Boulder is the youngest and most innovative program in the country. With its strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research and close individual mentoring, the program strives to create career possibilities for young scholars inside and outside of academia. Designed to allow for the completion of the Ph.D. within four years, our academically rigorous program provides intensive and personalized mentoring, directed reading advice, and workshops devoted to writing, digital and archival research, and oral presentation. Graduate students work closely with leading scholars of modern literature, culture, and the arts from the Enlightenment to the present. Our faculty is composed of established experts in such fields as aesthetics, literary criticism and theory, history of science and technology, critical theory, cultural studies, and contemporary art. The program offers a wide range of graduate courses in German studies and strongly emphasizes interdisciplinary work within a secondary concentration, such as classics, environmental science, comparative literature, art history, political science, Jewish studies, business, and library science. The faculty of the German program also plays a leading role in the University’s exemplary effort to create further research, funding, and internship opportunities for graduate students in the Humanities.

Our program is located on the Boulder campus of the University of Colorado, one of the most beautiful campuses in the country and part of a lively city that is well known for its quality of life, art and music scene, outdoor activities, and stunning views of the Rocky Mountains.
