|Beschreibung||Call for Papers for Session on “German Romanticism and Science”
Long regarded as non- or even anti-scientific, German Romanticism in general, and the early circle in Jena specifically have been re-evaluated in recent years acknowledging the scientific interests and activities of several participants. Novalis and J.W. Ritter are some of the best known but not the only examples of Romantics immersing themselves in the latest scientific experiments to counter mechanistic concepts of Enlightenment science. This “new science” was always closely related to poetry, philosophy and other ways of inquiry into the structures of the world; and it became responsible for such major advances as the discoveries of ultraviolet light and electromagnetism that had major effects on the 19th century.
Please send 300 word abstracts discussing various aspects of science in Romanticism and brief biographical information to Antje Pfannkuchen (email@example.com).
