Atlanta, Georgia, November 8-10, 2013

This panel invites papers that address issues of intertextuality in German-language theater and how intertextuality enriches or complicates the understanding of German drama and/or dramaturgy after 1933. Panels may consider fitting with the general theme of the SAMLA 2013 conference “Cultures, Contexts, Images, Texts: Making Meaning in Print, Digital, and Networked Worlds.” Possible topics include, but are not limited to: the significance of intertextual references in the dramas of 20th century playwrights such as Brecht, Bernhard, Dürrenmatt, Jelinek; performativity and intertextuality; intertextuality and theories of acting and the actor; intertextual relationships between the 20th Century and the Goethezeit; intertextuality in the 21st century theater; cross-cultural intertextuality; intertextuality and gender; drama and intertextuality in the Digital Age; reconsidering intertextual paradigms (Kristeva and Genette) in the context of the German theater.
