German at Leeds has a vibrant postgraduate community made up of MA by Research and Ph.D students, several of whom are co-supervised in different subjects, researching aspects of the post-1945 and post-unification eras. Current projects include memory debates, single author theses on major German writers and German cinema.
Postgraduate students are integrated into the School of Modern Languages and Cultures' research and teaching activities and benefit from the facilities of the Leeds Humanities Research Institute (LHRI) and Graduate School and training in research methods and teaching effectiveness organised by the University's Staff Development Unit.
The School runs a programme for postgraduates focussing on career development and employability, including presentation skills, writing-up research for publication, editorial work and being part of collaborative projects, and preparing for job interviews.
