ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (GERMAN) (REF: 4189)
EUROPEAN LANGUAGES AND STUDIES
SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES

• 2 year appointment commencing 1 January 2013
• Salary range: Level B $85,470 - $101,496 p.a.
• Closing date: Friday, 30 November 2012

The German program is part of the European Languages and Studies. The bulk of the teaching is in language (beginners, intermediate and advanced streams) but units in cultural studies and literature are offered each semester.

We are seeking a person with the experience to teach German as a second language at all levels of undergraduate teaching. Applicants must have a PhD in German Studies with native or near native proficiency in German. Although it is not a criterion for the position, applicants with the ability to contribute to other teaching programs especially a language, within the School and Faculty will be well regarded. Applicants with teaching experience are requested to submit a teaching portfolio as part of their application.

ROLE STATEMENT
The Assistant Professor will be responsible to the Head of School of Humanities to undertake teaching, unit coordination and student supervision. The applicant must be motivated to contribute to the academic environment of the School generally and develop a research portfolio within one or more of the identified strategic areas of the Discipline of European Languages and Studies.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Undertake and manage undergraduate teaching in German language and literature/cultural studies.

2. Supervise Honours and postgraduate level research

3. Conduct research independently or in collaboration with others.

4. Undertake administrative duties as required in relation to the above teaching and research supervision.

5. Work collaboratively within the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching teams and support the University’s commitment to equity and diversity principles.

6. Teach other programs within the School, Faculty and University in related areas

7. Perform any other duties as required by the Head of School.
