|Beschreibung||The Department of Germanic Languages and Literature at the University of Virginia is seeking dynamic leadership in the area of language instruction. Our position of Language Coordinator is offered at the level of Lecturer (non-tenure track); it carries a 3-year, renewable contract with full benefits. Responsibilities: the (re-)creation, coordination and implementation of the first- and second-year German language curriculum; training and supervising graduate teaching assistants; teaching 5 courses (either 3+2 or 2+3 per academic year, as determined by the department) including a seminar on language pedagogy; running a week-long training session for new TAs immediately prior to the start of classes in August; assessment of language proficiency. The appointment starts in early August 2012.
Requirements: Ph.D. required and must be in hand by the time of application; demonstrated knowledge in the field of general linguistics and expertise in SLA (Second Language Acquisition) with a special focus on German; ability to integrate new media and technologies; knowledge of techniques and methodologies across foreign language curricula. Experience in training and supervision of graduate teaching assistants is highly desirable.
