This roundtable seeks papers on a variety of perspectives on, critical approaches to and thematic inquiries into the work of Herta Müller. Possible paper topics include but are not limited to

-modernist aesthetics and poetic innovation;
-texts and contexts;
-public reception;
-public persona;
-methodological approaches;
-the canon and Balkanization;
-relation to former-GDR dissident authors;
-critical scholarship;
-reading Müller alongside other authors;
-memory and trauma;
-autobiography and fiction.

In the Roundtable format, the objective is to create discussion between the participants and the audience. Participants give brief, informal presentations (5-10 minutes) with the remainder of the session given to a conversation between the participants and the audience.
The 42nd Annual Convention will feature approximately 360 sessions, as well as pre-conference workshops, dynamic speakers and cultural events. Details and the complete Call for Papers for the 2011 Convention is available at www.nemla.org.

Interested participants may submit abstracts to more than one NeMLA session; however panelists can only present one paper (panel or seminar). Convention participants may present a paper at a panel and also present at a creative session or participate in a roundtable. Do not accept a slot if you may cancel to present on another session.
