New York University is a leader in global education, having established itself as the first Global Network University with two portal campuses in New York and Abu Dhabi, two branch campuses in Singapore, ten global academic sites in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and numerous student and faculty exchange agreements, and is committed to expanding its Network over the next several years.
NYU seeks candidates for the Director of NYU in Berlin, the University’s academic site in the German capital established first as a semester-long program in 2003. NYU in Berlin is based in Prenzlauer Berg in the buildings of the restored Kulturbrauerei, has active partnerships with Humboldt University, and has been in operation as a year-round academic center for NYU for two years. The Berlin site currently hosts approximately 45 students each semester, is responsible for a number of intercession and summer programs, and is mounting a new research center in cooperation with several of NYU’s leading departments.
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Globalization and Multicultural Affairs in New York, the Director will oversee the day to day operation of the site, be responsible for managing staff, ensure the delivery of the curricular, co-curricular, residential, and student life programs, as well as help implement research and scholarly initiatives.
The Director will work closely with the Office of Global Programs and in partnership with NYU’s academic units (schools and departments) in New York and key faculty to offer a high profile and quality academic program; identify, appoint, and supervise local faculty; oversee health and safety requirements in collaboration with University offices; establish and cultivate relationships with local cultural and educational institutions helping to build partnerships on behalf of NYU; and participate in the development of the University’s Global Network more generally.
NYU invites applications from qualified individuals with a strong academic background including a commitment to global higher education. The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D., have demonstrated experience managing a program at the university level, have an excellent record of teaching and advising American students, have strong cultural knowledge of the United States as well as Germany, be fluent in German, and be deeply familiar with and knowledgeable about Berlin. Experience managing and promoting study abroad programs is preferred. This is a full time senior position requiring full time residency in Germany.
