Panel: Transatlantic Destinies: The German Connection

Papers are invited that examine the representation of America by the German-speaking countries in the long Eighteenth Century. These may include historical documentation of lived experiences, philosophical or political exchanges between prominent thinkers on both sides of the Atlantic, or artistic representations in literature, music, or theater. Of particular interest might be the German reception of native American peoples or of the slave trade. Broadly conceived, this panel aims to provide scholars in a variety of disciplines an opportunity to present their recent research on the understudied interconnection between America and the German states in the Eighteenth Century.
